Greetings everyone. I've been a member since 2014 when I was fortunate enough to find a 93 888 for sale while at the Barber Vintage Festival. After picking up the bike in Jan 2015, I enjoyed it and put on around 700 miles. Other projects got in the way of riding (selling house, buying new house and all the projects that come along with that) and the bike sat. After getting the new garage somewhat organized, it was time to tear into the bike for a refurb/mild restoration.

The frame was dull and stained from fuel overflow The forks were in need of servicing and the bodywork needed some love.

After having the bike broken apart, the frame and subframe was dropped off for powdercoat. After weeks of searching for a powder color that matched, I came across this color called "Desmo" from prismatic powders. A free sample was ordered and it appeared to be a spot on match.

Once the frame and subframe were coated, it was time to start some resassembly. The motor was degreased/cleaned up and new belts installed.

The forks were taken apart/thoroughly cleaned along with the front rotors. The rotors were disassembled and centers along with fork tubes were taken to the anodizers for a fresh coat of gold.

The wheels were given a thorough cleaning with the clay bar, polish and coat of carnuba wax.

As of now, the engine is back in the frame along with the rear swinger, rear wheel, shock hoop and rocker. I also noticed the previous owner must have installed a corse style rocker. The ohlins rear shock will go out to Ken Hall for service/rebuild/refresh. I am waiting on some seal drivers to reassemble the front forks along with the fluid.

Below are a bunch of pictures during the tear down and reassembly up until now. Looking to get this baby wrapped up in the next couple of weeks so I can focus my attention on my 2001 996 I recently picked up.
