It would be great to see the bike on a grid for sure!

I wish it weren't so....but AHRMA's ruling in the Next Gen class prohibits any frame bracing. You can only brace the swingarm.

I know some guys were petitioning this to be changed for 2016. Not sure if it happened or not.

Regardless, I'm sure they'd be fine with you racing the bike. The only issue you'd have is if you put someone seriously fast on it at Barber. Even then you could probably get the approval of the other guys in the class to race it and just forefit the points and take a DQ. All the guys in the class seem to be in favor of the more bikes on the grid, the merrier.

Titanium rocker pins, how do they stand up to wear and tear?
Are they a practical (apart from the price $$$'s) way of lightening the motor?

As it happens, I have offered to let a (fast) friend from the UK race it at Barber.

As Marvin stated, it is my understanding that bracing done as the original Corse bikes is permissible. But I have no interest in Championship points anyway.

That's good news about the Corsa frames. Didn't know they were braced.

I haven't seen Chris Boy's bike, but heard from a friend who races in the class that it's pretty serious. Is he racing an actual 888 Corsa?

Yes, it is a real corse plus lots of RS parts as stated above. He has a customer form Dubai who also now has a real corse.

FWIW, the only thing on that frame that is "Corse" is the frame gussets on the side "X". All of those other braces are just replacements that are on any street frame because some butcher cut all of them out to install a 2V engine.

P.S. I also made up brackets so he could use the more plentiful late style rear sets.
those early brackets would just bend if the bike crashed and the sets are more scarce.

I made a Sprag clutch outer from Ti 6AL-4V once, It didn't last very long at all before it chewed up by the clutch mechanism. But that is a pretty extreme environment compared to a rocker pin. You would need to talk to a metalurgist about surface hardening of the Ti alloy

That's pretty much what I thought, Ti galls up quite fast when subjected to rubbing.
But then again they do fit Ti valves to motors, but they're probably hardened in some way?
The race quality valves in my 851/916cc motor and 955cc heads are "Plasma Hardened" stainless steel.

Wow, very cool racing class.

I don't envy whoever is writing the rules, pleasing everyone is like trying to nail jelly to the ceiling, but no frame bracing is allowed even though it was carried out in-period while USD forks are allowed on a VF750F? Weird. But it still sounds very cool and I think I'd happily get lost in the pits.

Well, it still won't be an exact replica and the bike never was a factory corsa, but you're right--I did increase the budget. I had to sell the 888 to do it though. However, it should be a ripper.

Sorry, I wasn't having a go, it's your bike and your money. Interesting following the twists/turns and evolution of the project reading through the thread again in one hit.

The term "restomod" comes to mind which the four wheeled fraternity use to describe an old school classic car brought bang up to date: classic looks with modern running gear.

No, I didn't take any offense. It evolved once I had a more focused purpose in mind--a bike for the Next Gen Superbike class. One that was able to get back on the track as intended and its history dictated, but that I would also be able to register and sneak onto the street. And after selling the other bike, I had some funds to make it that much more competitive, whether it will ever actually be raced in anger or not.

And I'm still watching the budget. I got a great deal on the 5 spoke wheels and found those headers really cheap. Even the new adjustable triples weren't bad in my opinion--$800, shipped from Italy. The Showa forks are being upgraded with a newly designed kit from GP Suspension.

Yes, he was the easy choice to clean up the heads and do the assembly.
