Project 888 with 1038 Testertretta deep sump engine.

Thanks. It was another system from this same bike with a different engine so I can,t take all of the credit, however using the deep sump Testerstretta engine made for a few head scratchers. Now I know it works I want to make the next one in Titanium using this one to make a fixture. To be honest if I make another one in Titanium this should also fit my SP4 (It has a John Hackett 984 engine) if I just change the header plates. The layout should work however I am running a slightly lengthened ST4 side stand which I do not know at present will require mods to the side fairings or the carbon belly pan I am planning . A lot of work but I can,t stop looking at it.............lovely. It certainly makes the 50mm system look small. The opening for the cans goes out to 60mm diameter..............all the way through the canister and out the other end...........lovely.

My normal hacks are a couple of tuned ZX12R,s so mmmmmmmmmmm now let me think about it. It should be 160 Hp + at the rear wheel so around 175 - 180 Hp at the crank. I wonder how much power a modified (Central spar cutout for the massive carbon airbox) 888 frame would be able to handle ????. For sure there will be flex but I am planning to use the beast on the road so will not be able to push the chassis over it limits. Weight with all of the road trim is on target for 165 Kg dry. With more money and time should come down to 160 Kg. A better power to weight than the works bikes (And a lot more Torque).

Impressive, not least that you have shoe horned it all in !
And I do like the air box, what tank are you using ?
What did you do with the extra brace where it joins the swing arm ?
Is there a bearing or bush to allow for the swing arm movement ?
Have I missed some pictures on another thread ?

Looks good but flawed, you should have used a hanger on the exhaust hoop and given yourself somewhere for your feet to go.

Yes you are correct as it looks at present but it is work in progress. The plan is to find some carbon heat shields from say a 999, modify them and weld on the fixings plates (Which I have) so I can fit them. The footrest at present are carbon fibre ones made to the original shape, but I have 3 other sets I can try. I am short in the leg so I do not see too much of a problem for me (No one else will ride the beast) if I have to bring them up and forward a tad.

The tank is also Carbon fibre.
From the frame the central diagonal spar was cut and the small central one was modified to make way for the airbox and injection unit.
Bearings for the swinging arm are welded into the 888 swinging arm and the frame has an extra support running downwards so that the rear pivot runs through the frame, bearings and the engine(Just like the new Ducati,s have).
Most of the electrics are working however as I am running the 996 SPS crank I have only 2 yellow cables from the alternator, however I will use the rectifier from a new multistrada to get the 50 Amp I need to drive the newer electronics/ECU. I bought an upgrade kit from the states which should sort this out (It works on the older bikes as well).
Exhaust cans are Triangular in shape.

Thankyou, had anoyher little fiddle, now happy with front cylinder used a differnt front header, on to rear which is a bit more tricky as i have to change the direction of the rear header.

Exhaust is split and will require a sleeve for the front cylinder otherwise demounting would be impossible. I have,nt tried it yet as there is still work to do on the electrics. I am running 996 SPS crank to get the longer stroke but I will be using S4RS clocks, ECU,KEYS, immobiliser/999 wiring to locate the battery on the LH side. The bearings for the swinging arm have been welded at the front of the 888 one for the rear pivot and the frame has an extra welded brace there. Huge Carbon Airbox, coupled with 1098 injectors. Should be good for 160 + Hp at the rear wheel

Very impresive, seen one of these done in the USA its about as extreame as it gets, would you be able to post a pcture of your rear header/manifold I am struggling to decide on beat position so would be greatfull for an insight.

P.S where do you keep your ECU?

Attached are some photos............not easy as it is pretty cramped in there. Basically one of the photos is looking straight down on top of the rear header so should give you the angle. It comes straight out and makes one curve downwards through the hole in the swinging arm. The 57mm pipe needs to be crushed to get it through the hole............it is tight, very tight.
I am running S4RS clocks as I think they look period but I am using a modified 999 wiring loom as I wanted the battery on the left down low. I have opted for the biggest lithium battery I could just about fit in the space for the box (I will need to widen it by 6mm) but this will give me 50% more CCA (360) and weigh almost 4 Kg,s less. I have a long stroke, 1038cc engine with around 13 to 1 compression...............I will need all the cranking current I can get. The standard battery is hopeless.

The standard S4RS ECU is fitted behind the battery box using the 2 fixings you see under where the battery would be (As the 999 is). I do have a loom for an S4RS but it put the battery where I have a massive airbox...............so I mixed the S4RS clocks,ECU,lockset with a 999 loom (It uses the same connectors) and it all works. I modified it to fit the 888 headlamp connectors in and the modified the rear loom to fit the 888 lights. My speedo incidently runs off the rear wheel. I cut up the rear plate from an 888 and welded in onto one for a later monster and hej presto.............lovely job, it looks factory.

Duds, if that's a nyloc nut next to the exhaust you might like to change if for a fuji.

Which filters are those? I have a similar airbox issue ahead of me, looks like this could be an easy answer....that I'm sure will raise other questions.

There K&N but I had the stackes machined so the the fillters slide over and sit against a outer ledge.

Any air filter is always going to be a compromise over completely open throats.
To run without any filtration is going to lead to premature valve face/valve seat wear, I've a JHP lozenge shaped 9*6 one to try inside a 3 piece 888 Carbon Corse air box, but TBH I've been considering separate filters per TB. However I'm not a fan of the K+N style pleated cotton items as they're a pig to clean.
I've been there and done that one a few times.
So I've been toying with the idea of foam filters (that are very easy to clean) like those fitted to speedway or grass track motors, these have a steel spring inside them to stop them being sucked into the carb'/TB throats.
I ran these years ago on my 900SS Bevel during the winter months, but although they're pretty free flowing you could actually see them being sucked in and out as the motor ran., so they must be causing some restriction.

Mark, mine is a s4rs, didn't want to go through the job of fabricating an air box so took this route.
