Any air filter is always going to be a compromise over completely open throats.
To run without any filtration is going to lead to premature valve face/valve seat wear, I've a JHP lozenge shaped 9*6 one to try inside a 3 piece 888 Carbon Corse air box, but TBH I've been considering separate filters per TB. However I'm not a fan of the K+N style pleated cotton items as they're a pig to clean.
I've been there and done that one a few times.
So I've been toying with the idea of foam filters (that are very easy to clean) like those fitted to speedway or grass track motors, these have a steel spring inside them to stop them being sucked into the carb'/TB throats.
I ran these years ago on my 900SS Bevel during the winter months, but although they're pretty free flowing you could actually see them being sucked in and out as the motor ran., so they must be causing some restriction.
