Although not optimal, very workable results can be achieved by adding a percenntage overall to the fuel map. After all, that is precisely what changing jets and adjusting air/fuel ratio screws on carburators do. In fact, Ducati has offered tuning chips with bracket -3 to +6% percent increment changes for several bikes including corsas! When I get my hands on a dyno and some wb o2 sensors I'll do it proper and develop a delta map for it. Till then it's my only option.

Anyone have a '91 SP2 eprom? I'm looking for comparison. Someone on another forum said he heard the SP4 eprom works well in the sp2, which I am highly skeptical. Thanks!

I used an FIM SP4 chip for over 18 years on my SP2-- as recommended by Bruce of BCM. No additional tuning was required but I believe that it had the potential to produce a bit more power because Bruce said to turn up the fuel pressure a bit if it still had any flat spots. Even though I own an FIM handheld, I kept it at 3 bar with no additional tuning. I sold her a few years ago. The new owner has no complaints. He had it gone over by Brian at Bolder motors and they complimented how it ran. The stock SP2 chip had many flat spots and was almost unrideable -- especially if you wanted to have fun with the bike. It was a big letdown compared to my first 851 which was a tuned single injector '89 851/888 track bike. I talked it over with Bruce and he sent me the FIM chip which transformed my bike. I bought the SP2 in '97 and installed the FIM chip in '98 and never put the stock chip back in. My opinion is that the factory had not gotten the SP2-or even the SP3 chips quite right until the SP4 so I would not assume that the SP2 chip was a good standard to go by when comparing its fuel and ignition maps to the SP4 maps. I have never ridden another stock SP2 or any other SP. By '98 my passion became building, restoring, and tracking Corses so I never owned or ridden another street 851 or 888. For that reason I cannot say that my SP2 was not a good example of how other SP2s functioned with their stock chips.

Thanks Mark. Do you recall if it was an Ultimap chip or MegaZone? I believe the Ultimap chip had just a standard Ducati map which was then augmented with the HHT. Not sure about MegaZone. At least my 888 SPO Ultimap had identical map to the factory. I would imagine the tweaks to the maps were retained on the chip's daughterboard.

Sorry- I have not been able to answer you since I could not log in again- but it seems that Jim was able to get this fixed.

I actually do not remember but I think it was an Ultimap chip. I am stretching my memory but I recall that Ultimaps were not simply programmed with the stock fuel, ignition, and trim maps that you can modify with the HHH. Each chip contained a revised fuel and ignition map for specific setups that Duane ran on a dyno. Open airbox, larger exhaust as an example. As you know you could program and overall trim or trim the 7 zones.

I keep getting an ERROR box come up while I am typing this so I going to post and see what happens before I stretch my memory any further.

The SP2 engine (valves/camshafts), injectors and ECU (P7) are virtually identical to the SP3 and SP4 engine. I used the SP4 eprom in my SP3, worked really well.

Despite the name, I believe the 916SPS should have a 996cc engine.

mike ahh, ok. Haven't really researched much yet. A friend needs an eprom for his project and asked me if I had the bin to burn for him. I do have the 996 SPS EPROMS but they both had P8? I thought 996 was p16? Maybe I'm thinking 998? I only know 888. Lol.

The 916SPS had a 996cc motor as did the 996SPS. The 916SP had a 916cc motor and the 916SPA had a 955cc motor.

freqrider 916 Strada, 916SP, 916SPA, 916SPS and 996SPS all had P8 ECU's as standard.

The base model 916/996 Bip's and the 996S had the 1.6M ecu's.
