The frame number is only a few higher than mine and that would put yours in the middle of the SP2 production run, however your engine number is what I would expect to be in the realms of the SP3 numbers.

Photos would be very handy, points that are worth photographing for quick identification on the frame are the two mounting points where the front subframe would be bolted to on the headstock or the air runners on a race bike and a picture of the coil pack mounts on the frame. With regards to identifying your engine I cannot help.

thanks for your information Peter, the computer as well as the dash are mounted on a little subframe (not aluminium) in the front, the two mounting points are welded very close vertically together on the headstock.
the aluminium cooling block of the power units of the ignition is mounted on the right outside of the frame closeby the right coil (wich is mounted on the inside of the frame). the bike was fitted with large diameter intake tubes wich run trough the frame to come out directly in front of the velocity stacks where the airbox should have been.
the (alu) tank is held in place on the front by rubber straps.

Johan a couple of pictures of the frame, where I indicated will help to identify the frame as either SP or Corse. There are some other specific details but that would quickly clear up the situation.

Very interesting thread which I have read with interest as I will be attending this RM auction with a couple of mates. It seems this bike (and a couple of others in the collection) may not be quite as they seem.

The complete catalogue hasn't been released yet; but I am told the Ducati Factory will be consigning 10 competition bikes plus a lot of memorabilia. So it should be very interesting.

The identity and provenance of this Corsa may be clarified in the catalogue description. In the meantime, any opinions on what it might be worth?

The worlds most expensive Corsa? Estimate range is €80,000 to €100,000 Euro.

Still cheaper than the works Motor GP bikes at €300,000 to €350,000 Euro I guess.

All before 17% buyers fees and taxes

So what's it worth?

I am flying out to this auction in 10 days time. Seems like there are some very knowledgeable and experienced Corsa guys on this site. I think the estimated range is WAY high, even for an
ex-factory team bike. What do the experts think the bike is worth?

I would be surprised if the bike even makes 20-25K Euro's, especially considering it's questionable history.

They have pulled all reference to specific race history that they initially had stated as fact. I asked them about it and they now say that they have no documentation and can't confirm the bikes specific race history "at this time". All they will say is it is an ex-team bike that Falappa rode in 1992.
There are question marks on a lot of the bikes up for auction. The 888SP3 was withdrawn because they couldn't establish who actually owned it. Make of that what you will !

Personally I doubt any of the bikes will go for big money with the possible exception of the factory Desmosedici bikes.

Seriously, if it goes for the estimate ( 6-8000 Euros ), someone will get a very cheap bike!!! Comparable ones are advertised for 25000 Euros ( 3 currently for sale in Germany ).

Well the 998 R just happens to be on my short list 😄
So was the 888 SP3 before they pulled it from the auction 🙁 I even had a deal arranged to put it through RAWS compliance here. Now I'll be looking around for a nice SP3/4/SPS to import from elsewhere. I am Intrigued as to how you will register your 888 SP3 when it's finished?

Another cheap entry is the MV Augusta F4CC. There are 2 for sale in Oz, $185k and $150k so at circa20k Euro + costs and RAWS compliance it's attractive.

The downside on the modern bikes is RM have no idea if the owners manuals and service books, tools etc are included. It's not too confidence inspiring to be honest.
