Mr.R
Jimmy,
I have a couple of 'ongoing projects' π one of these is actaully in my '92 851,
it's a 851/916cc mildly tuned motor and I've done around 10,000 miles with it, the others a 984cc motor.
(still very much in kit form)
I'm using a P8 and got John Hackett of JHP/Ducati coventry to burn me a couple of 'Baseline' chips using the motors spec (that I'd supplied him with) to then use a PC III usb to fine tune them on the dyno.
One chip's for single and the other's for duel injectors, they cost me around Β£30 each.
The single injector chip made +1 rwbhp out of the box and another 5 rwbhp after a day on the dyno using the PC III usb over the set up FIM UM061 that I'd been using.
There must be someone (like possibly Doug Lofgren?) over in the States who can supply something similar, if you can't find one I could try Mr Hackett for you.
Brad Black might be able to help you here, I'm sure he's got a chip that you could use as a baseline on file.

brad black wrotei'd just get a loom from a st4 if possible and use that with the 1.6m. the 748/916/996 loom will be too long at the ecu end and won't have throttle body stuff. the 1.6m will fit nicely and is mostly reliable none of the later ones are as reliable as a p7 or p8 tho ime.
and because the 1.6m has internal coil drivers, you do away with the ignition boxes at the back of the bike, etc. helps makes the loom better. there's no way i'd go through the hassle of making it dual pick up.
Brad,
Do you know of any differences between the St4 harness and the St2? I checked the part numbers for an 02' St2 and a 00' St4 and there is one digit difference between the numbers.

tps connector, all 2v bikes use a different smaller tps with different connector. same as your 999 one and all the linear tps. apart from that i don't think anything is in a different location.

there isn't a std cam 996 p8 eprom that i know of. could possibly make one by dropping the 916 to 996 single injector eprom mods over a 916 p8 eprom, but it'd be a guess at best.

Thanks Brad! Shouldn't be too hard to splice in a different TPS connector.

If you manages to find a FIM/ultimap 916 P8 eprom it might be possible to zone it to get something acceptable.
Jocke.....

i think that's a um061.

Ok friends,
Some things became me clear!!
I will be going on with my project. At first I will be using the ST4S loom and 5.9 ECU. This might be surprising, but there are a couple of reasons:
I do have these parts, don't need to buy anything
I can run on a single pick-up system and don't need exotic parts
the 5.9 is still on almost all Ducati's, so management shouldn't break down
I can have different set-up's via the ecu conversion, which is available at Kaemna etc.
By the way, I'm quiet surprised that there are so many people going on with projects, for longer periods of time....don't you want to ride??? ;-)
I hope to do an easy and straight-forward conversion, if I start, I will make a post on this forum.
Cheers to all!!
Henrik

Where I live We have loong winters, then we use the summer to test the modifications done and plan for the next garage season.

Some of us have other things to do like "work"! And we have other bikes that we can ride.

Hi,
I've got a spare UM061, (916 Strada '94 with open pipes) it's used but in full working order! π
Like the other lads I've got a few bikes and can't afford to finish all of my projects at once, the wife and 6 children keep getting in the way.
But I do still ride a motorcycle everyday and spend a lot of my spare time working on my projects.

hello, between my "real" job and the bykes builded for radicalducati dont have toomuch time for my owns progectand me too have others bikes for run,be patient my friend be patientπ
p.d.:the EL MOJITO progect is still moving

Well, I'm glad we are all riding our bikes!!!, but I'still surprised of the amount of 851-888's that are projects ;-)
Before I start doing the transplant, I will finish my 750 SS Bevel project, which has taken much time as well. As a matter affects, I bought the 851 to ride, while I was working on the Old Basterd...
Talking about being busy. I don't have kids, and still single, so I've got a bit more time left. Most of the hobby is being done in my own workshop, during evenings-nights and on sundays.... To me, motorbikes are "easier" projects than I do for a living, building race-cars. ( average car is approx. 2000 hours, and engines are done elsewhere).
Well, anyway, I hope to do the transplant in a couple of weeks, because I just fell in love with the 851, and I cannot miss her too long... :-) Specially because the summers aren't too long here as well.
Off-topic: When bike is ready, I will start a new project:
"TT1 Looks, 4 valve engine, modern geometry and handling", doing already some thinking. There will be plenty parts left from the ST4S and together with my 851 engine, I would like to build something... Thats for later!!

Has anyone had any experience with an ST4S conversion while installing the ST4 harness along with P16 & stock/single 888 injectors?
It seems that a few have decided that they would go this route, but i can't seem to find someone that has.
Wondering what mods would be necessary to fit the harness.

I've done basically that but a S4Rs engine with a TPS conversion. Some of the connectors aren't the same as the 851. Dash lights have different sockets. I made an aluminum plate to attach to the stock instrument cluster with the proper size holes for the ST4 sockets. Small things like that are the only problems. Use the temp. sensor from the 851, etc. You will need the complete St4 wiring harness, front and rear. I don't remember all of the details but if you follow the wiring diagrams for both bikes it can be done.
p.s. The St4S engine has no provision for the mechanical 851 tachometer so you will need to get an electronic tacho.

Just out of interest, if you're going to use an ST4 harness and ECU, why not use the ST4 TBs and injectors? Or have I misunderstood your question?
This is what I'm going to do (if I'm ever home long enough to get started!)

Aren't they basically the same?

Yep, the late Rob B did do a hell of a lot in this area, with great succsess as i remeber from many long conversation with him at meets and at his home.
he gave me some good info on issues that he encountered as i was about to fit a 916sps engine into an early 851.
sadly lack of time meant it never happened but i think it would have been brill though.
I have a lot of info on the whole subject of engine transplants into 851/888 series bikes in archive form, they cover a lot of the issues covered here plus more, i'll delve back a put some on here shortly.

still on this subject,
I had a really mad idea the otherday after reading this thread, it was this.
I have a 955 corsa lump tucked away in the garage complete with all anc bits,it was destined for a 955 project i was going through but i changed my mind, anyway, i was thinking about buying an old 851/888 which was in need of some tlc etc and fitting the lump etc into it and making it into a low profile(well from an appearance viewpoint)trackday special......π, is that mad or what π π
Might just do it now ,so lookout you lot i'm on a mission again.π
Or may just sell the lump etc and get a scooter to run around on...

Does this 955 have the swingarm bearings to fit the double sided swingarm ala 851/888? If not you either need to fabricate some bearing support boss's or switch cases.
