Be patient.
Next is making the airbox, then when I start to make the airducts I have to mount the fairings and will know. I guess in 3 - 4 weeks. Right now I won't worry about details instead I will live on yesterdays progress for a while.

I just put them on to find out. Cutting seems lika a strong word, it needs some grinding. That goes for the right side as well since it interferes with the deep sump. But it's still possible to join the sides so it's not much.
I have ordered cheap fairings for track day use. I have managed to keep the bike on it's wheels up to now, but running with the originals would be to puch luck too far. Does anyone kow where to find the text to the fairing?

I have seen some of the pictures of the stuff you are building, if I should make that finish I would have retired and the world would be out of petrol before I was ready.
And I'm easy to catch up on track.

Item number: 350164209477 on ebay. the chaps seems to a fair number of replica decals. I've never bought anything from him so cant say what the quality is like.

- Have you got global pics of your bike, seen from left and right sides ???
- Did you face a problem with the vertical exhaust part, crossing the swingarm ???
- Last "boring" question now : Are you able to fit 50 mm exhaust cans with that manifold ???

Hi,
The exhaus manifolds are made for this bike, I could not find any for it so I had to make them. Starting from the laser cut flange in the picture I made it from stainles bends and pipes. I had to make a small buckle to come through the swingarm. I have no idea if the manifolds are any good, plan is to Dyno end March, then I will find out.
Pictures are enclosed, the bike is rather standard part from the engine.
My Termis where made for the standard manifolds so I cut of the narrow part, then I made rings of sheet metal which I welded to the end of the manifolds. The rings are tight to the Termis so hopefully it will work. The manifolds are pictured in the beginning of this thread.

Are you planning to do something similar?

I will paint those fairings myself so quality is not that critical, it will be poor anyway.

Hi,

Air box is ready. This is fulmek, when time is more important than finish. The bottom is S4RS airbox the top is 888-strada airbox. In between there is some epoxy and fibre. Damn ugly but I'm sure it will work.

Rev counter

Hi,
The rev counter won't move (even when engine running). Probably I connected wrong. Does anyone know how to connect it or if those units are sensitive to misconnection, i.e. is there a risk that I blow it if I try around until it works? I have plus, minus and the signal from the ECU.
It's from a Guzzi, Veglia item number: 07700005 01.76.72.1

I don't know about the ECU that you are using, but the tacho signal from a 16m ECU is not the same as the signal from a P8 ECU, and so their tachos are not interchangeable.
Do you know what ECU was used on the Moto Guzzi that supplied your tacho?

You would need to send it the corresponding signal. These tachos do not work on a simple pulse rate corresponding to RPM like an aftermarket tacho.

I have no idea what ECU there is on a Guzzi but in the ECU on the bike I can choose between 1 and 2 pulses per revolution, on the tacho it says 366 Hz at 11000 rpm which corresponds to 2 pulses per revolution. So I guess the ECU is supposed to cover this tacho, but it still does not work. I have checked the wiring to the ECU it's OK.
I'm a little afraid of testing too much since I don't know if the tacho is sensitive. This is my first bike without carburettors so I have a lot to learn.
Is there an easy way of checking the signal from the ECU? (I don't have a scope).

The Moto Guzzi range used both P8 and 16m ECUs, and possibly some others. From what I can find, the 16m used a 10V square wave signal with varying frequency to drive the tacho, I don't know what the P8 uses but it is different.

Is it possible to send a test signal with the software fro your ECU? The FIM software has a tacho test function.

I don't know, I have not seen that function in the manual, problem is that both ECU and rev counter is new to me. I bought the rev counter since the new engine does not have any mechanical gadget for the rev counter. It's easier to find faults when changing one piece at the time. I will ask the experts during the coming week.

Tacho problem solved

As when I could not start the engine I sent a question to Mick at Competition systems. I got an answer back within hours with a short description how to solve it. This time I should connect a 10kohm resistor between the signal cable from ECU to taco and 12V. This since RPM output is an open collector from the ECU. God knows what that means but now it works. That guy seems to have a god answer to all my questions, I'm tempted to start asking him the more important ones, how to live my life etc.

Nearly finished for this winter, only air ducts and cheap fairings left now.

First testride completed

I just tested the bike. No fairings mounted since the first real use this season will be on track I did not bother to mount the original fairings. So it was a ratbike ride around the village.
The difference compared to the old engine is huge.
