Had a go on the dyno today.
It did take a while since I have very little experience with the nemesis software.
We did not have time to do anything with the ignition advance so I have to go there once agin.
Unfortunatly the bike started to missfire at around 8500 revs at full load.
I have to check this out. I had a few missfires with the old set up before i blew the piston so I guess it can only be some of the few things I have not replaced: Coils, sparkwires, or any thing with the fuelpump/regulator.

As far as i´m concern its up to the workshop that sold and installed it to fix or at least compensate for it. I only know a swedish dealer but if you like i can talk to him obout it. Cheers Thomas

Its The Nemisis unit manufacturer and only when fitted on Street fighter. if you could just possibly advise him of the issue. Personally the legalities of the issue and compensation are not my concern.

No, every thing looks fine. I had the oil pump apart but no signs of metal parts in there.
It only felt like a missed gear so I was a little surpriced when i opened the case.
Got a used box from ebay wich looks very nice. I´m going to replace all the bearings just in case.

Boy that sucks Thomas! Glad to hear you didn't see any other damage, though I'd be really adamant on checking things out. You are lucky the gears didn't make a big hole in your case(s).

Yep I'd write that baby off as a catastrophic failure. From the pic it looks like something got wedged in the gear and made it stop rather quickly then snap in half. Which begs the question what? Followed by how?

What bike and year did the F'cked cluster come from??
I've heard a whisper through the grapevine that the later gears aren't as well made/as good quality as those from a few years back, this has led current engine tuners to fit earlier gear clusters to current motors like the 848's etc.

The "new" one I got now is from a monster 900ie (close ratio, longer out shaft).
The one I broke was from a 748. Don´t remeber the year.
The new one looks better than any other I had so I hope it will last for more than a few laps.
Hopefully I get new bearings to the gearbox before the weekend so I can start shimimg it in.
I contacted "the bearing shop" for the main crank bearings. any other suorces I should check?

Well if things can go wrong it will.....
Starting to shim my new gearbox two weeks ago i thought the outgoing shaft did not turn smoth and the cases where hard to asemble I thoght maybe something was wrong with the bearings.
I had the caseses wormed up in the owen and all the bearing cold in the frezer before I putted the case back togheter. So it should have been corectly done.
I pressed out the bearing again for the outgoing shaft but I could not see any failures.
Being in a not to good mod and quite unpatiante I just warmed the case with an heat gun (I´m a bit concened waming the case with the rest of the bearings in place). before i pressed it back.

Anyway. Lesson is. Don´t do anything on your bike if you are not int the right mood.
It´s possible there there was a tiny crack in the case after the gearbox failure but I think I was the major cause to this.

Soo for the moment I gave up. I bought a 748R wich I´m going to use for tis summers track days while i´m sourcing a new case. Mean while she (the 888) will stay in shame under a blanket in the darkest corner of the shed....

That looks a little bit like damage from loading the bearing in or shimmed too tight.
Did you heat up the cases to 220°C, as the frozen bearings generally plop in and just need a little tap to seat them?
Sorry to see the end result what ever the cause. Bloody heart breaking.

Have you checked your 748r valve clearances and rocker condition before you give it some on the track? The cams are hard on valve gear due to high acceleration on them there babies.
You should have heaps of fun on that at the track.

Hello!
The 748 came with a copy of a huge bill for serveice just 1500km ago so I´ll guess it will do for a couple of track days.
I will replace the oil for Motul 300 just in case (not that it has worket that well lately...😁 ).

When I had the bearing out for checking I did not heat the case that much when insertet the bearing the second time.
Wich temparature can the main bearing cope with. I figure anything above 130-150 would be a bit of the risk due to the plastic roller carrier?

The Plastic cage is a Phenolic resin which can handle heaps. I think it starts to degrade between 400-450°C, and that's because the trapped moisture starts to blow the structure apart. When you think about it, a high eng oil temp event can get to 150-160°C and all you need to do is change the oil. So another 50-60° is not that bad.

If you leave the cases in the hot oven for too long, the steel bearings will change colour to straw/heading for blue before the Phenolic cages start to melt...

Hello all!
Its been quite busy around here for a while and I need to catch up a bit on the forum.
Any way, I´ve done a few trackdays with the 748 so far. Its a nice little bike with no torque what so ever compared to my 1026 engine.
I most often ride between 8-11500 rpm on the track. If you rev it hard and you are early on the throttle on the exits its no problem to keep up with 999:s. 10/1198 is a different storie though.
Since it is an R, I think I will keep this too. I made a guy an offer for a ser of forged wheels (hypermotard s).
I just replaced the chain and sprockets to get the wheel back and to get a better gearing (15-42). aftre that I will do some more adjustments on the suspension. I already replaced the rear spring for a 75 N.
