marvin wroteHow did you get it that light Steve? Corse frame? Carbon tank? How much fuel in it? Mine is a lot heavier than that. Of course, street frame and steel tank but some Ti bolts, Forged alum. wheels, Carbon everywhere, billet triples and other parts, etc..

Hi Marvin,
Where to start?
It's taken almost 20 years of lots of loooong hours in my workshop, modifications and lots of cash ££££££s.
But there's been 10's of thousands of miles covered/good holidays enjoyed in between the hours in the workshop on this bike.
Which I also very much enjoy!
I spend many hours in my workshop just looking at an area of the bike, thinking about how I can lighten it without losing any strength.
All the bodywork inc' fairing, seat unit with a rubber Corse seat pad and no bum stop, huggers, fuel tank with lightened billet alloy fuel cap , undertail, ecu covers, sprocket, clutch, cam belt covers, engine breather box, 3 piece airbox, frame to airbox infills, X shaped air runners, head light mounting plate, chain adjuster end plates are race carbon or carbon/Kevlar are very lightweight parts.
60mm HID Projector lens head light,
Carbon inlet valve covers,
Every fastener on the bike are now Titanium inc' rolling chassis and inside/outside of the motor, quite a few are hollow ones.
Wheel spindles are thin walled hollow Titanium, all wheel spacers, wheel bearing spacers are either alloy or titanium,
Alloy rear wheel spindle nuts with Titanium washers,
Alloy adjuster plates,
Lightened wheel adjuster blocks with Titanium studs, nuts and washers,
Lighhtweight cushdrive housing,
Alloy rear sprockets further lightened/peppered with extra holes,
Lightened gearbox sprockets, 520 749RS sprockets fit and lose a lot of weight when fitted to the longer out put shaft,
Camshafts are hollowed out at the LH ends,
Titanium plates/BIG washers behind the cam pullies and between the lower pullies,
Billet alloy cam pullies, inc' adjustable ones on the cams fixed with all Titanium fasteners and camshaft nuts,
Billet alloy tensioner pullies with Titanium spindles and nuts,
Titanium hollowed out valve rocker spindles,
Big bore alloy billet engine breather stub, with a big bore read valve into the airbox, fitted with a Yamaha Moto X fibre read petal,
Bored out to 54mm TB's with all the not needed stubs removed,
Front subframe removed with it's duties taken up by the X shaped air runner,
One of your alloy Corse dashes (I've also got a new carbon one sitting here) fitted with a electronic tacho, temp' gauge and toggle on/off switch,
Lightened alloy rear subframe,
Ohlins FG9050's with special lightweight Maxton internals, shorter springs with long alloy spacers and better valving,
Chrome moly thin walled Corse/FBF clip-ons with slotted clamps,
Billet yokes with alloy steering head pin and Titanium top nut,
EDIT...Now with Corse replica Billet Magnesium top yoke, cast Hollow Magnesium bottom yoke and alloy top nut.
Maxton modified and shortened Ohlins rear shock, with Maxton internals, alloy body, short spring, Maxton ride height adjuster and alloy hose fittings,
A "REAL" Billet suspension rocker with all Titanium pivot nuts/bolts,
Magnesium outer covers inc' genuine 888 vented Corse clutch, 955 alternator/waterpump (with alloy hose stubs), cam supports blocks, rocker spindle plates, exhaust valve cover on the rear cylinder,
Lightened 600SS alternator rotor with alloy spacer,
Alloy flywheel,
Lightened primary gears inc' the crank pinion,
Light oil pump gear,
RS timing gears, narrow/straight cut and full of holes,
Lightened starter motor gear,
Lightened sprag housings,
Alloy internal gear selector arm,
RS Alloy selector drum,
Lightened gear selector forks with rollers on the pins locating in the drum slots,
Lightened 748 gear cluster, cogs drilled, rumbled and "Super Finished",
V Two clutch basket,
Corse 888 clutch drum and pressure plate ,all the fasteners on the clutch are race pattern Titanium parts, inc' the bolts that fix the basket to the primary gear,
Alloy backed friction plates,
Lightened, Knife edged, polished and balanced 916SP crank, this's pretty much the same as a 888 Corse crank but with a 66mm stroke,
Carrilo con rods, almost as light as Titanium Pankl's but less likely to stretch at high rev's,
Modified/lightened 96mm Pistal pistons,
Genuine NOS Corse "G" Heads fitted with waisted stem 37/32mm race valves, Corse light springs and combustion chambers modified to suit,
The frame is a standard road '92 item with all the un needed lugs removed, other lugs are shortened, reshaped and drilled to loose the maximum weight from them,
Lightweight alloy rear sets,
Thin walled S/steel spaghetti system with carbon cans, hollowed out and crossed drilled S/steel Lambda plug blanking plugs, light alloy support brackets.
Lithium battery with light weight crate,
Pace race radiator without any fan, plastic bottle zip tied to the side as an overflow tank,
Thermostat removed and race hose kit fitted,
Oil pressure switch, neutral warning switch (holes blanked with Titanium grub screws), side stand switch removed,
Cable rev counter drive, cable and tacho removed,
All oil and brake/clutch fluid lines are shrouded S/steel items with alloy fixings for the clutch and oil hoses,
All hose banjo bolts are small head Titanium,
916 oil cooler with alloy fitting on the S/steel hoses,
PFM race front discs, Moto X lace doily rear disc mounted with hollow Titanium bolts,
Billet GP Brembo front calipers with all Titanium fasteners,
Lightened rear Brembo caliper all Titanium fasteners,
Lightened rear caliper mounting bracket.
The fuel tank holds around 17 litres.
Plus quite a bit more that I can't remember at the moment.
With the new Marvic's to be the cherry on the cake/a bit more excess weight thrown in the bin.
I've also got a NOS ST2 stator, so I need a ST2 rare earth rotor to match it, which will shed a few more ounces.
There's also a dealer in the UK who's selling billet Magnesium yokes, I've got them on my wish list if I can get the price down to a more acceptable level???
...And that's how you get a 851 down to almost Factory race bike weight.
The factory claimed 350 lbs for the customer 888 Corse bikes, I'm not sure if that wasn't a fanciful claim?
Everyone who's rode it or sat astride it has commented on how light it feels.
Those that have ridden it have said:-
"Christ it pulls from anywhere"...A 996 owner,
"Doesn't it go light on the front end when you open it up!".... A 888 owner,
"I'm impressed with the torque and it just pulls hard all the way to the redline"...A John Hackett tuned 888SPS 926cc owner.
...and this was when it was heavier and only 916cc with smaller valves.
