As a small update to this thread.. I am still waiting on some painting / powder coating of parts and have decided to pull the engine apart as there was something wrong with the clutch

Does anyone know the correct paint code for the suspension hoop ?

the powder coaters have offered this as a match :

Hit a snag with the engine, hopefully not a big one but a strange one..

Sent the engine to guys I race with for a check over and service. Apart from appearing to be in good order there is something off.. the primary gears have been modified (lightened) and are binding on the clutch bracket plus overlapping each other

Anyone seen anything like that before ?

Trying to work out if the gear behind the clutch basket is from an ST4S but been modified or from another model or.. parts of a kit that is missing other bits

We are hovering over pulling the cases apart just in case but would like to work this out before we go deeper..

Just a small update, new Primary gears have been ordered and delivered, will find out at the weekend what is going on there. Meanwhile the powder coating is done, looks great !

Sorry for the lack of updates!

To recap, the primary gear setup in the bike had been modified and we needed to buy a new set as the modified one was binding, not sure what the intention was of whoever did the modifications, it looks like the were trying to lighten the gears but maybe used some from another model - who knows.

With the above fixed, I have started on assembly. Just waiting on removing the old head bearings as the lower race is not playing ball...

With no access to a lathe I had to use some ingenuity today to 'modify' the ST4S 12mm Frame to Engine bolts (the frame has already been drilled out to 12mm)

Neither the heads of the bolts or the flanges on the nuts would pass through the frame openings so I had to 'turn' them down on the "MacGyver" lathe...

Also on the 'to do list' was fitting new head bearings, whilst the lower stem bearing refuses to leave the steering tube at least the new bearing cups have gone into the frame.

I sourced new bearings from Pyramid parts, good price and good quality plus a speedy delivery!

OK, next snag... No fuel pressure regulator on the ST4S throttle bodies!

Does the ST4S run the FPR somewhere else, inside the tank ?

What FPR should I use ? 996 or is any model going to work ?

all the st series and 916 on sbk are in the tank. external is 851 (which are adjustable), 888 (not sure), ssie, steel tank monster ie. the ssie and monster ie are the same reg as the in tank st and sbk, but in a mounting body which is smaller than the 851 part. these you can adjust by crushing the back of the body in a bit more. be careful, it's not a lot of crush to have way too much. btdt.

Ive tried eBay UK and I can get some throttle bodies complete with the fuel pressure regulator from one of the bikes you mention for about 80GBP, Ive tried to find new stock of the 851 regulator but I think its been discontinued?

An overnight stay in the freezer for the steering stem / bottom yoke and 5 mins in boiling water for the bearing and... we now have the new lower head bearing fitted. I used the inner part of the old head bearing to tap the new one into place

Just avoided a potential future problem.. Only noticed by accident that one of the belt cover bolts was inaccessible once the engine was in the frame. Luckily noticed before anything else was fitted!

Removed the engine and removed that bolt so belt servicing in the future won't require the engine removing!
