ST4S - SPS racer

Racer project started mid June , with the mission to race in Sweden 11-12 August 2018.
Starting position ; bone stock super condition ST4S engine and a strada frame..
SPS left hand side (cover, gears, flywheel,race sensors)
box P8 w 996 SPS chip - Open ex,
Harness ; SP5
Injectors ; SPS’ SP5 open Airbox
Radiator ; race size
Tacho ; Electronics a signal from pin 23

Result ; a perfectly running bike with a masive pull (not had dyno done yet)
Next ; T1 heads and cams, then Dyno.

Very easy build, given availability of SPS parts. (Zero harness and electronics hassle)

Cleaned up the rear end ;-)

Found some CF parts to cover up the hole under seat when removing the plastic under tail unit.. (these are not including air breather like the corsa part.. just a shaped sheet. With no prep to mount the P08 box , relay panel etc.. some fabrication needed.. here the result for inspiration in case some of you have similar plans to get rid of the plastic unit..
Box upside down.. and 90 turn.. box hanging in two 20x4 mm alu brackets.. relay unit mounted on its back side.. clean rear end ;-)

Seems like a simple solution. Just out of curiosity how are the Aluminium brackets fixed to the subframe ?.

The two 4x20 mm cross beams are attached to the P08 box ref fotos . They fold down wards and due to oppesit taper shape of the rear frame this in it self lock it from moving back and forth. The vertical lock is made by 4 rubber parts like those used on body work. Between between the Alu touch points I have thin single sided glue foam to prevent metal metal.

It all looks neat Stig but...
I used a carbon undertray like yours, then strengthened the mounting points and mounting points for 3 rubber lastic mounts for the P8.
Then mounted the ECU direct to the carbon undertray, sited the relays via "Blobs" of silicon RTV to the undertray and used 9*6 Strada/SP heatsinks mounted to the ECU to mount the amplifier boxes.
It looks neater than your set up and weighs less...RESULT!
I Then made my own engine breather box in carbon (4.5 ltrs) that sits on top of a rubber anti vib' sheet on top of the p8.

Just one thing , is your mounting for the ECU rubber mounted ?. From the factory these were always rubber mounted to the plastic undertray/mudguard assy , I guess to stop the vibrations from the mighty twin upsettling some of the delicate electronics.............over time.

I have 2mm foam between metal-metal connections.. May not be as protective as the strada setups.. looking at the corsa mounting in the front this cant be much worse .. you do have a point on the electronics wrt vibration but long term for a race bike, life is uncertain ;-)

When ever the conflict of original fit and what you need to do to make it work rears it's head. Have a look at Lucky's bike without the fairings. 😁 There are no rules. And hose clamps rock!
Anybody know where I can get a big green rubber band to hold a battery in? Green electrical wire is just too crude. 😄

To keep the clean look I think the only way would be to use the rubber mountings with a single stud (To bolt into the ECU unit) and then bond the clean rubber part onto the Carbon undertray. Double sided tape will not be strong enough by itself but I have used loctite on the double sided tape(Glueing both sides) to good advantage as the double sided tape acts as a flexible medium. If you just loctited the rubber mounting to the undertray, because the loctite is brittle it will not be so durable. Of course when you change your mind sometime in the future and remove the electronics , you will be left with the loctite residue on the clear varnish of the Carbon fibre. This can be removed by sanding and re varnishing the undertray. I have the clean look on this bike and all my electronics on this bike are fitted in this way and are still working after 5 years.

Have you considered a piece of inner tube from a suitable tyre size; you seem to have access to all sorts of useful left overs.

After looking at many pic's of race bikes, there seems to be a trend/tradition to use Green rubber band or Green wire to hold the battery. It appears to go back many years. Might just be coincidence but. Lucky's and Roche's bike, NCR's and singles.

As to the ecu. Having the plug secured to the ecu with a tie wrap is a really good idea. Having intermittent shut downs at the track is inconvenient to say the least.

The green “rubber band” is the fuel cap adaptor plate seal that goes in to the fuel tank!

When buying a bike now and after judging the outside as being acceptable I ask the owner to show me under the seat and look at the condition under there. If I see as in one case I saw what looked like an elastic battery strap made from the left overs of someones underpants then the decision is generally made very quickly.............WALK AWAY it will only get worse !!!!.

😁 You'd never get around battery. It's not a real fuel tank seal anyway, they're black and funnel shaped. You boys and your new fang dangled high tech machines! 😁

Zonks ago I was sent a photo of Roland and a lucchinelli replica. It has this green rubber band like it was made from a tire tube. But it was odd because it was green. In over a gazillion Ducati images i've checked out over the years, every now and then a green rubber or wire battery strap appears. Not blue, yellow or red, alway green. Always a full on race bike. Stig's having a shot at a kick arse race bike. Hence the comment. 😄

I want a green rubber band for my bevel endurance racer project, just so people will ask why I have a green battery strap. 😁
