Mr.R
Hi Griff,
John Hackett at JHP's told me in his opinion Ducati never made a finer exhaust cam than the G's.
John has tuned/built most of the BSB British Championship winning Ducati's inc' Troy Baylis's winning machine,(169 rwbhp) so knows his stuff.
The 431/G combination has been a favourite with tuners for some time.
There's certainly lots of power to be had with this set up, the downside being it mostly comes well over 10,000 rpm.
851Neil's 955 made around 135 rwbhp but it Redlined at 12,500 rpm!
The late Rob Barksfield's 996 ST4S based motor also ran this combo with similar power, not sure at what revs it made it at though?
Impressive stuff but not what I'd want, with this sort of power I think you'd be well into race program strip and rebuilds intervals.
I not sure but I think the G/G combo wouldn't be far off it either.
But I'm sure you'll either need some SP851/888 pistons or machine out the valve pockets to suit the cams, the standard T8 pistons won't have deep enough valve pockets (Is there enough meat in the crowns to do this?) to suit the long duration cams, I'd be very suprised if there is?**
I think you'd be better of with 996SPS cams, they make good power, their peak is around 9,500 rpm and run normal roadbike service intervals.
With these you'd need to fit an electronic rev counter, which isn't a bad idea as the cable driven 851/888 items aren't that accurate.
Still I'm sure you know all of this, but it might help some of the other lads make a decision before parting up with their cash.

P.S. I've now got the new Carrillo's I spoke of (Thanks Ian888, very fair price and the cheques in the post!) and today bought an ST4 jackshaft for £15 inc' P+P from E-bay.
Which will save me a bit of machining, I'll just need to have it ground down to clear the longstroke/900SS crank now.
I'm now looking for an ST4 oilpump with the integeral pressure relief valve and possibly the drive/primary gears* to go with it.
If any of you lads out there hear of these parts 'going on the cheap' please let me know.
*The V Two special lightweight kit would do the job, but it's out of my price range.
** I've got a spare set of 916SP Pistons kicking around somewhere if you go down the longstroke route with the G/G combo, they've got 21mm smallends.
