hubinduc wrotewell, what I heard and read was that indeed Nijssen maintained the Mombaerts bike(s) in the beginning, first 1 or 2 years but I can't confirm that as a fact. the bike still needs a lot of work to bring it back to 100 % original spec, and I still wonder if it was a production corsa or an SP2 prepared to race spec

I looked at the frame, it has the radiator tags as per the road going machines. My guess is that it is an SP2 converted for racing...real nice! I also like the colour scheme. 😁

I'm a bit confused here Peter, my Corsa rad bolted straight on my '92 Strada frame?
I just needed to make up a longer lower alloy SP(4)S style bracket.

Sorry Steve, my mistake insert 'subframe' for 'radiator'...the frame has it's subframe tags on the lower sidetubes behind the headstock, that's what I meant.

Hi Gents, I have been lurking here for a while and thought I should introduce myself before I ask any questions. I am from Melbourne Australia and my passions (wife would say obsessions) are Italian cars and motorcycles.

I caught the Ducati bug the first time I saw a new 851 Ducati cruise past me in peak hour traffic. Finances didn't match ambitions at the time and the first Ducati I bought was a 916SP in 1994. I currently have three Ducatis, a modified 996 SPS, an ex Ducati Dealer Team 955 Corsa and a Desmosedici.

I am looking at adding an 888 to the collection and stumbled on this forum when I was doing my research 😄 I would love an SPS; but they are pretty thin on the ground and tightly held, so most likely I'll end up with an SP4 or
SP3 when the right example comes along.

I see Brad (ex - Moto 1) is a member. He might remember me as he did the work on my 996 SPS and 955 Corsa

I have posted a few comments/questions in the few days since I have found your wonderful site. A quick bit of info to introduce myself. I am a mechanical engineer currently working at a shipyard in northern Wisconsin, USA. We are building the new USS Freedom-class littoral combat ship for our partners, Lockheed Martin. I bought my first brand new vehicle back in 1992, an 851 Strada. I sold it in 1999 to acquire the funds to purchase a new 996. I now wish I had bitten the bullet and kept the '92 851. I am currently hunting down that 851 in the northern Wisconsin area to reacquire it. I am running down some leads I have found from the 851/888 registry. (Isn't the internet wonderful??)

Hi everyone,
my name's Tom and although I am a die-hard 916 fan I have been checking out this forum as a guest for quite a while now. I have found myself getting more and more interested in the 851 and 888.

My main interest is corsa bikes.
I have a title-winning ex-Factory Team ADVF 916 from 1995, an ex-GSE Duckhams / Ian Simpson 916 Racing (955 corsa) from 1996, an on-going 998RS project, and in the next few weeks I will be taking delivery of Frankie Chili's 2002 NCR 998RS No1 bike.
I'm looking forward to getting to know you all, and who knows...maybe one day acquiring a corsa 851/888!

Thought I would get onboard with the forum as I've just purchased a 1994 888 Strada 😁 Still awaiting delivery but I should be here this time next week!
Unfortunately, I am still on a 33 bhp probation licence which we have here in the UK, and still have 10 months to go 🙁 Apprentice at a shop which is in the paddock of Knockhill Racing Circuit - so I might squeeze the a trackday in before the snows back!... loving the forum - hello to all! 😄

Welcome Kelly, good to see another '94 strada owner. That's one hell of a first bike for a new biker - I was blown away by my new 600SS, acquired straight after passing my test. Got caught out on it day one, in a gravelly pub car park, on full lock. You can probably predict what happened next. It only lasted 18 months before I went for a 900SL to fix my growing need for torquey grins.

Thanks Phil - I had to have one from the minute I saw one in the flesh, worked 3 jobs for the best part of a year, saved the pennies and now it's almost here! Only went for 1994 'cause it's the same age as me 😝

Couldn't resist doing the same for 1943, and learned about a Russian secret weapon they must have used to help drive the Germans back from Stalingrad. Apparently they had developed excellent brakes for dirt so the rider could jump off and throw a bomb really fast.

Another New to Me Member

Just put a deposit down on a '93 888 SPO with under 5K miles and thought I'd join so I can figure out some of the ins and outs of this particular model. It is the 5th bike in a WSBK winning models collection I'm working on and will be the 4th Ducati I currently own. Not particularly biased to Ducati. I'm limiting myself to bikes from the 750 inline 4 and liter twin WSBK era and Honda RC30, and RC45 prices are just too silly for me at this time. I currently own bikes from the big 4 Japanese makers as well as another Italian maker and live in a suburb of Minneapolis, MN in the US. Bike probably won't arrive for a few weeks, so in the mean time I'll be doing research here.
