Is that Mike Norman posting about racing with Paul?
No, I am Brian Brown. I raced in 250 Production and Superbike classes on a Ninja 250, then on a Suzuki RGV250 in 250 Production and Formula II, then raced an FZR 400 in the 450 Production and Superbike. But my favorite and most competitive class was the Formula Singles class, in which I built and raced a Spondon frame with a highly modified Yamaha XT600E motor (displacing 686cc, making 72 hp). I was the Formula Singles class champion for three years and placed 2nd and 4th in the championship two other years. While I was putting my Spondon together, I raced the Open Twins class for one year on my Ducati 900SS street-bike.
Here a shot of me after high-siding the Spondon on old tires during testing on the last lap. Of course it was right after I put new bodywork on the bike with new paint. I broke the scaphoid bone in my wrist, which is one of the slowest healing bones in the human body due to poor blood circulation. It caused me to miss my AMA Pro-Thunder debut and lose the AFM Singles championship that year.
The AFM usually ran the Open Twins class and Formula Singles classes together in the same race (separate waves/starts), So the leaders of the Open Twins class would come by me during the race. When Paul came past he would be very close, but left me just enough room.
