yes, you're right- the Silverman collection tricolore kit is in the Bonhams auction on Thursday, estimate 29000- the bike looks perfect.
or the Luchinellt replica for the same estimate, but would normally be worth more.

No problems getting that bike here.
Any vehicle 25 years or older is exempt from EPA and DOT requirements.
I have imported several cars myself.

Would you happen to have a link to the document that mentions the 25 year limit? I may consider importing a motorcycle if this applies to all bikes.

I bought the Tricolore at Bonhams last week due to the advice of a number of Ducati collectors that were there. I thank everyone for there help on this bike. I don't know the complete history on the bike but I was told it was Ducati's Milan show bike also. Not sure if it has ever been started but I just might fix that. They had a number of Duc's that did not hit the reserve,, like the TT2's and TT1's, but everything else made reserve and was sold. There was a Harley that went for 170K..RIGHT!

I'll have to get her home and see if everything is ok. I don't have any of the parts for the actual KIT so if anyone knows where I might find one I would really appreciate it. I don't think it has any miles so I'm not sure if I want to change that or not. There is some value in a low milage bike when you decide to sell, and I do have other ducs to ride. I may have the guys in Dallas at Advanced Motorsports take a look see.
Should take about two weeks to get here. I also found a very nice 1963 Rocket Gold Star.
You Tricolore looks fantastic. Tell me about it. How many miles? Do you ride it on a regular bases. Where did it come from?

I've found out some information for you on your new bike and I'm sure other more knowledgeable (ie much older 😄) forum members can add more.
The main differences between the Strada and the Superbike "KIT" were braced swinging arm, open dry clutch cover and factory race clutch, 17" Marvic magnesium wheels, race cam shafts, race ECU, fairing cut out on left panel for air ram duct, reverse cone "silencers", tacho and temp gauge (No Speedo fitted), race inlets. I think they made 206 or 207 KIT models.

I'm not 100% sure here?
But I think the kits came supplied with bigger 33/29 valves, (or the bigger valves were supplied as part of the Race kit) and 94mm 888cc barrels and pistons, the road going Tricolore's coming with 32/28 valves and 92mm pistons/barrels like the later (early) 851 Strada's.
Compared with the later 851/888 SP's even the full on race kitted Tricolore's were in a pretty mild state of tune.

The interesting thing about my bike is that the first owner was the Mercedes Benz racing department, researching multi valve desmodromics- I got the bike from an ex staff member still with only 6000km.
It's now road sorted and occassionally being used in 'mild' anger : )
That's a lucky photo though- just worked out nice with the light : )
Normally I use the original mirror indicator pods for a bit of street legality. No body has complained about the pipes yet though.

I saw this 'kit' for sale on ebay February 2012, the guy wanted quite a bit for it. I've no idea if it actually sold and I don't have any more info

but you can see what was suppossed to be included if it is in fact the original kit.

Hey Kyle, you should have read all the info I sent you on my bike, the full kit detail is in there on one of the links and it is way way more than pistons and valves. 😉
Of course you may not have a full kit modification, there were super sport and other variants too, it is all determined, assuming no tampering later on, by the hand stamped letter on the front cylinder head near the spark plug hole. That letter tells you which of the kit options are installed and you can convert the kit option to a list of parts added. If you want to see the full KIT parts list, search for my bike on eBay and it's in the description, but the all important thing to find out is what the hand stamped letter on your front cylinder head is....report back on that and we'll know what you have as far as the day it left the factory.

Hey Ian, I don't know what this 'kit' was supposed to be on eBay but it is nowhere close to being the set of parts that make up an 851 KIT....wonder what the seller was claiming it was?
