Finished !
Finally finished getting the SP3 ready to lap the Isle of Man on Thursday night. Well... almost. She just needed a new set of tyres and a final lock-wiring.
Fairings off, packed in the back of the van and then spares, equipment, tools and gear piled around and on top of her. She took the journey well. Saturday morning we got the tyres and fairings fitted. Up to the paddock in the afternoon. As we were getting the bike up to skrootineering, it poured with rain for about 20 minutes. That's when I realised I had forgotten the bike covers :-(
Rain cleared and we got her up to skrootineering. We got a few admiring nods on the way up and in the skrootineering bay. The skrootineer had a good look at her... he was taking so long that I was getting nervous. Eventually he looked up, nodded and said "Nicely prepared.".
Holy-cow! That is the first time I have ever heard a skrootineer say anything positive about any bike!
We got ready in case there was a chance we could get out despite the roads still being a bit wet. But then the fog came down and practice was cancelled. 🙁
Then she didn't start - ignition primes the fuel but dead on the start button. Guess she didn't like the soaking. My brother and I had a look at her this morning. Using his experience he went straight to the problem - water in the plug for the starter solenoid. Dried out and some electric plug grease applied - sorted.
On the shopping list - bike covers. We'll do it all again tomorrow. Forecast looks good, so hopefully we'll see how she goes on her first lap around here. Looking forward to it! 😁
