brad black wrotei think you're nuts using an sp3 too...
Hi Brad
Maybe. But there were more than 600 of them made... and you have the SP1, SP2, SP4, SP5... an other variants - so quite a few homologation 851/888s around.
I have a Aprilia RSV-SP in my garage - only 150 were made. Now that's quite a bit rarer than an SP3and got some really cool stuff like adjustable headstock, engine mounts ,swing-arm, Cosworth heads, pistons etc. A lot more trick than an SP3 - but perhaps not as 'desirable'. There's a story to it, but I've been racing it for the last 8 years and it's done 3 Manx GPs. It was my first race bike and I'll never sell it. So it doesn't matter how collectible it is. If the SP3 behaves and we go well, I'll probably never sell it either.
I agree that hot in 1991 is not hot now. I'm not a mechanic and don't have the time, budget or patience to develop a hot Strada for the job. It may be cheaper if you build your own engines and can spend a year or two collecting parts, building, testing and developing. But, I'm not really bothered with all that - I just want to get out there and ride the best race track in the world. SP3 is a good package to start with, and that's what it's about - the package.
Sorry if I have upset anyone... but remember... it's only a bike.
Ciao
