Howdo!!

Well seeing as we have infiltrated the 851 & 888 Forum 😉 Here's my old Superlight which as per every Ducati is a working progress.

As she was after a 944cc rebuild by CJS 90Bhp & 70lb of torque.

Quick check ST3 engine fits Superlight frame.

All mocked up and ready for testing.

As she is now.

Chassis:
Trimmed down and strengthened.
12mm Ti engine bolts.
1098 Forks.
Pro-Mach adjustable yokes.
Speedy Moto clip ons.
Ohlins rear shock.
Ti front spindle.
Alloy rear spindle.
BST wheels.
Brembo master cylinders.
Brembo 4 pad radial calipers.
Armstrong front discs.
Moto master rear disc.
Ti & Alloy bolts.

Engine:
ST3 - Blue printed & gasflowed, light weight flywheel, Pistal pistons, Full race system modded for ST3 Cylinders, Pro-alloy Rad & catch tank, ECU re-mapped, MWR one off air filter, corse breather Vv.

Bodywork:
ETI Fuel tank, carbon seat unit (With crankcase breather), carbon fairings & headlight cowl, cockpit surround, carbon mudguards.

Other bits n bobs:
Speedy moto water pump.
Techmoto sprocket cover.
520 Chain.
ST3 Clocks, switch gear and loom.
Oberon clutch slave.
Billet tank hinge.

Current specs:
Power 123Bhp & 78lb of torque.
Weight 154kg Dry 167kg fully wet.

167 kg it's not a Superlight it's a Ultralight.
It's carbon turkey for me then but.......
I'd lay good money that your leathers are bigger than mine and that you weigh more than me mate.

I had seen the ST3 motor swap, but your latest version with the forks and bodywork is very, very nice.
I can't wait to see it all painted and finished.

Howdo Darren,

Initially I thought the system was by Silmoto, however I've recently found out it's one of the original Scorpion systems. I got it ages ago from Steve Wynne (Sports Motorcycles), Mark Hill (MHP) altered the system to fit the ST3 heads (Made a superb job!)

You know the ones lads, the ones with 851 or 888 on them. 😉

Paul aka Pablo has more than once expressed an interest in my spare '91 851, from him I'd consider a part X but he's only got his SL/ST3 Special or some GSSSSSSRRRRRRXXXXX 1000 piece of Jap crap.
However he has got a very nice 900SS Bevel in his garage, hold up that's out of the question it's already mine.😁

But Grandad Spinnaker you don't have an 851(That's roadworthy) or an 888 you have a 916!!!😳??? So does that mean it's not a 'real Superbike or real Ducati' Realise your old and often forget things - like washing and stuff!! But that's expected at your age!! 😏

I'm more than happy to give you a 2 Valve advantage!! Because with your physical areodynamics I'm more that happy to remove the other 6valves!!!! Shippppppppppppmmmmate!!!!! 😝

Howdo!!

Here's a few more pics of the bike (We all love pics!!) These are the MWR panel filter (Compared against the standard K&N)

I'm utilising an ST3 airbox on the bike, however the front intake seemed to be covered quite a lot which led to the MWR - which covers the whole surface area (Quite loud at higher revs but definitely added some of the extra power 😉 )Intention is to make a PUK and try and fabricate a carbon box, won't be pretty - more functional.

Howdo!

Knocked up the airbox mould....not perfect but fit for purpose, tomorrow is pulling hair out time as I try and lay up the carbon........oooooooooh mother! Should have filled the TB holes flat but I'm not gonna knock up another mould unless it all goes Pete Tong.

Hi Pabs have you sorted your lay up decisions and issues?
If you think you should have madthe TB holes flat just wack some plasticine in there

The TB's are raised on the mould - wish I had done them flat (did for all the other holes 😏), so got the dremel out and tapered the edges and just some gel coat over the top. Not to bothered on the finish here just didn't want this as a sticking point in the mould.

I've made some card board templates & cut the carbon sheet to match (As best as possible) gonna also give the pigment a miss this time as I'm inpatient as want it done this weekend, just so I can get me anger issues out the way when I throw it all in the bin 😝

Hi Paul it's Grandad...
Are you going to vacuum it into the mould?
IME it's very hard to get carbon cloth into the tight corners/shapes unless you do.
Strange that you should mention pigment, I found that when I added pigment to the epoxy it took days to cure fully.
By the way the mould looks quite professional in the pic's. 😎
Both Stevie B and I have had some experience with GRP etc, we've both worked in this field at some time in the past.
I was the chargehand/pattern (mould) maker of a GRP dept' back in the 70's and have made most of the parts for my own bikes over the years.
I made all of the bodywork on my old 900SS Bevel that's in your garage.

Hi Pabs if you cannot vac bag it
Give a bit othought how you cut your cloth
Carbon weave tends to curve easier one way than the other ,won't be as pretty but it will work better as a moulding

Ps are you using a gel coat ? A wash of resin will do if not, let it tack ,then lay up
