Shame the story of this bike is not on this forum. Are the fairings the ones that John, the original proprietor of QB, made...is that his old bike, I believe he made one of his Ducati into an endurance replica?

As far as I know its not from the QB owner? I got the bike last year from ebay, funnily enough the sale picture was in Practical Sportsbike mag in the bikes bought this month section. The journo said it would be to expensive to fix. Anyway, I decided to go down the st4s engine route but thought it would be cheaper to buy a whole bike instead of engine so I could use the loom and brain. The ST4s I got was in much better nick then I hoped for and had a v5, so, I am going to put the old 851 engine and loom into the ST and make it something special as well. ( If I can make the time). I am going to put the corsa rear sets on the 851 as well as the 888 , all very exciting to get back to in the spring.

A bit more info as I know. All of the body came from France and it sure looked like ex race stock with a number of repairs and odd holes here and there on the right hand side. The seat unit was new from France. The bike still had a lot of road kit on it but the engine was running without air box with pod filters? It came in bits and I would love to have more history but then it's not why I bought it. The engine and frame numbers show it as a 851s ( strada ? ) but maybe a privateer used the bike and added what he could? Who knows...

Do the side fairing have a slot at the leading edge to channel air into the engine space?

They are subtly different...I like them.

I'll bring it up to your place when it's finished. You can have a proper look around it. The light holders are carbon and will look a lot better when they are in I think. My mate is going to try to source the right type of lights to stick in them?

I believe that guy851 found some that would fit in there, ask him where he got them.

I am going to get new high level pipes for the st4s engine. I am using the old 851 headers as they are the same diameter as the st4s. Question is, do the 888 cans work ok with the st4s engine or should I go for larger diameter full system from headers back? 😳

Carefull from where you buy your headers/system, you could end up with something different to what is being advertised and out of pocket like a fellow forum user when he returned the goods for a refund!

I am -sure the ST header is 45mm and the 888 is 40mm😄

so, I should get a full system of 45mm plus to allow the engine to breath properly? I noticed the St4s cans are much longer then the 888... going to buy from a fellow forum member so no worries there. Just want to be sure to get the best set up to suit the engine.

Are you waiting to see if I relocate abroad so that you can pay more for shipping or give the carriage company a chance to lose the items...they've been allegedley working there way to me for the last few months, have they made it to the front door yet? 😁

A lot depends on the cams and the size of the valves, but to start making big power you need a full 50mm system.

I figured as much but was more worried about the best balance for an st4s engine left stock keeping its mid range grunt rather then outright power increase.

Then stick with standard ST4 headers and get some link pipes made up to match some straight through 50mm cans...
You won't miss any midrange that you lose, but the topend gain will be worth having. 😉
