Hello Gents,
After riding and building Bevel Drive Ducatis for the last 36 years, I thought I'd enter the modern era with an 851, something I could never afford when they were new. Spotted one sold as a project bike on eBay the other week and seems I was the only one who thought it was worth $1,800. My ... wasn't it in a state! I believe it's a Japanese import from 1992 - bent as opposed to welded front frame rails. I opened up the cases and was rewarded with a large amount of water and rust - nothing that hasn't bead-blasted off thank god .... I am currently repainting, replating and blasting all the appropriate parts with the intention of returning it to "factory fresh" ... but all these carbon-y bits I see will probably mean that does not happen. Here's a couple of early pix of the head and barrel restoration works. I'll start up a project page on my website
www.beveltech.net when I have the time. I may also have some odd-ball questions from time to time such as "Why are there no carburettors?"
Cheers,
TONY
