Hi Terry,

Thanx for the kind words but I don't work on Ducati's profesionally, but I used to prepare and maintain the bikes for Ducati Herzele's racing effort and am now involved in SC Red Fox-Grinta classic endurance team.
I'm afraid the current owner of the RR will not be able to tell a lot about it's history. He bought the bike from Mimmo di Taranto, a well known figure in the Belgian Ducati scene. I believe Mimmo raced the bike in one or two seasons of the European Superbike Championship back in the early 90's. The bike looks complete but it isn't equiped with it's original engine! However the real engine, a spare fueltank and some little parts came with it!
The bike was only on display at Ducati Herzele, so they will not be able to help either.

Terry..Well I got the photo off THIS forum so I don't think I compromised anybody's top secret photos and I don't think I implied that anything was damaged or not damaged on that bike. If anything YOU drew attention to that. I simply stated that it was the same as mine. I don't think I jeopardized the integrity of anybody's bike by posting that photo. I think you are putting WAY too much thought into all of this.... " not a cure for cancer" ? That statement alone concerns me. 😄 I have 37 posts on this forum.... that alone should tell you that I don't take this seriously. I have gotten a TON of PMs and emails from guys that take this stuff WAY more seriously than I do. Guys asking me for frame numbers and and to send photos for confirmation...guys posting photos with all of their toys in the background.. 😏 ....trust me I am probably one of the least serious forum guys out there. Anyway I still don't understand why it would matter if I posted a photo of a damaged bike in the first place. I think most of us are informed enough about these bikes to know what is original and what is aftermarket or incorrect equipment. Are we really worried about the waters being muddied with more photos of these great bikes? If we only posted photos of absolutely correct and undamaged versions of these bikes only a few of us would be able to post our bikes.
Anyway... I'm glad to see that there was some productive discussion to my post. It seems that there are several versions of the nose cone and windscreen for the 851. This is a great resource for information.

BTW... Desmo57... will that bike be coming available in the near future?

I understand that there are plenty of bikes that have dubious history already, lets muddy the water some more so that we can sucker someone else in the future. 😯

Sorry but I am with Terry, unless the photographs are period images it is difficult to say with certainty that any bike is as it was 'back in the day'...no wonder people get conned! 😡

Using recent images of bikes as a means of authenticating originality can cause problems, unless the modern images can be verified with older images to show continuaty!

Being flippant with remarks and not taking seriously what is posted leads to muddy water, but then...there are some who are out to profit for themselves at the expense of others, behaviour which is both non 'sporting' and showing a lack of integrity, best suited to those selling 'snake oil'!

Sorry, this post is off thread, but want to answer Mark's question. No, not my TT at Grattan. I'm pretty sure Steve Munro was shaking down his F1 type creation, getting ready for Barber. Hope you got a close look at it, it's really a magnificent piece of work. The attached picture doesn't hardly do it justice.

The reason there is good information is because a few people did take the time to catalog pictures and parts so the best information could be made available to you and others- who do not take this too seriously

Bill- I did and it was amazing- Steve made it fly on the track. He had a pit mate with another F1 or TT- (I admit I know very little about these beautiful bikes) that was also very clean and kitted out. I though it might be you and your bike since I never got Steve's friends name.

Here's a couple of pictures of a RRR as it came out of the crate, Competition Cycle in New York had it for sale at the time, $33,000.00 was the price. I had four kids just getting ready for collage ( that did some major wallet violating, I had all 4 there the last year) so I had to pass. Not sure it helps the screen debate but thought I would post anyway

Trav-- you had four at one time-- and I thought two were bad-- good for you!

Here are a couple others of the same bike to add to yours. I was in the same position--$33K was --and still is-- a big wad . Did you talk to Augie (sic) at the time. I think they were called Ghost Motors way back- interesting place.

??? I hate to tell you I could care less what photos people post or what components others have on their bikes. I know the difference between a correct Corse bike and a fake one. As much time as most of the guys on this forum spend on this stuff I am surprised at your concern of fakes. In my opinion if you can't verify that the particular bike you have or are about to purchase is the real deal then you shouldn't buy it. These things aren't cheap and I can't imagine anyone dropping $25K - $30K+ on a bike they are not 100% sure about. I've had guys request my frame number and ask me to send them specific up close photos of my bike and a DENIED them that information. I know without a doubt that my nike is legit. It doesn't bother me if there are other bikes out there with fake, mix matched or reproduction parts. In FACT most of the other RRR and COrse bikes that I have seen have mix matched components on them...

😏 ... Haha for the sake of coming off "flippant" ...... to ME ... in MY opinion... there is more risk of muddying the waters by reproducing parts than just simply posting photos of 1 bike to compare MY bike to. I don't know where the issue of someone being "suckered" or "conned" comes from. Has anyone on this forum ever been "suckered" or "conned"? If so that sucks and I am sorry to hear that.

So if I am understanding you correctly the only photos of these bikes we should be posting are photos taken between 1989 - 1994? Those would be the only "period" images correct? I don't get it.. there seems to be a lot of concern here. I've never seen a fake RRR for sale. I HAVE however seen reproduction TT bikes but to be honest I liked them and didn't have an issue with them.

I have had 3 different people on this forum ask me for my frame number and for up close photos of my bike....to me that was kind of odd and a little shady....but hey who am I to judge? I didn't give out the info because I want to protect the integrity of MY bike. I would expect the same from anyone.

Perhaps the person who asked for your frame numbers (I know who it was) was not trying to figure out if your bike was legit or not (he doesn't care). Rather, he has extensive knowledge about these bikes (more than you I humbly submit!) and he just wanted to add to his "book" of knowledge!! 😏

I have a STACK of books and photos from Falloon, Conti and a couple ex racers with contacts in Bologna and I personally have started a catalog of my parts and compared them with others who I trust. No offense Mark but as one of those who asked several times for my frame number and specific photos you should know from experience that I take this seriously and will not jeopardize the integrity of my motorcycle. 😏

I am not trying to argue with anyone.... these bikes are fantastic things and I feel lucky to own one. I just think some people come off a little hypocritical sometimes and I can't imagine anyone who is serious about these bikes being concerned about what photos of these bikes someone else is posting on here.

BTW...I went through hundreds of my spare parts to confirm and verify ID. If anyone wants to work together to compare spares and share what they have I would love to do so. Terry was gracious enough to email me a copy of the 851 Superbike Racing Spare Parts catalogue which has been appreciated and very useful..thanks again Terry.

I assume I am not offending or concerning anyone by posting these photos.

I mean... if someone isn't educated in these bikes wanted to piece together a fake or stamp a frame with a fake number I wouldn't want to be the one who gave them information to make their task easier.

What good would it do for me to give that number out to someone anyway? Why would someone want MY frame number?

Mark has no need to make a "fake" bike. He already has 4 legitimate, documented Corse bikes. He told you that the information would not be shared by anyone, he just wanted it to see how your bike fit into the series along with his bikes.

BTW, If you look at your numbers you will see that they aren't actually "stamped" in the traditional sense.

I think we are all on the same team with ultimately the same goal... to enjoy these bikes and ensure the purity of the bloodline ha. I don't have issue with anyone nor do I have any interest in arguing with anyone over these bikes. I don't take any of this to heart although I do enjoy the discussion. At the very least we've gotten some interesting conversation going 😄 I am at the very least as interested in these bikes as most of you. Hell I carried my bike up three flights of stairs to the top floor of my building so I could stare at my bike every night. I don't fault anyone for their opinion on this stuff. I just have a different view on some things.
