New member with SP3

Hello all,

New on this forum. Proud owner of a SP3. Original Dutch bike. #117.
This was always my dream bike. White frame. Black wheels. 888 engine. This is the best looking one in my opion.

Unfortunately the Ohlins forks are replaced. So if anyone of you knows Ohlins FG9050 forks for sale, please let me know. I want this bike to be original again.

Welcome to the forum.
Be prepared to pay a lot of cash for a set of FG9050's, try the search function on this forum to get an idea of how much they sell for...
You could almost buy a running 851 for the cost of a set in top condition!

The SP3 should have white wheels as standard, the models with the black wheels were the '92 Strada and the SP4/SP(4)S's, which IMO were the best looking 851/888's.😉

Steve I am sure that you are wrong there, SP3's had black wheels...white came with the SP2 model.

Welcome to the forum...hopefully you'll find a set of original Ohlins forks for your SP3 .On another point.....Steve..... sp2 boy's correct..originally the 851SP3 came with black wheels...... ( laughing..... ).

Got my SP3 number 141 in the crate. Was very disappointed when we opened the crate and saw black wheels. WTF. Was expecting white wheels. Soon got over the shock though, and think it's the best looking ever. Still have it, going to ride it this weekend.

Hi Owen, a good Welsh name you've got there?

We've been through this before on the forum and IIRC the lads think that the SP3's came with black wheels as standard.

Jalours making. Having a new one out of the crate. Which you hopefully kept as well.
And, yes, black wheels are better looking than the white ones. The SP3 is the best looking SP in my opinion.

I saved a section of the SP3 crate with the serial number, and it's hanging in my garage. I also have sections from my MHR Mille crate and from a Yamaha RZ500. The Yamaha (which I no longer have) crate sides and top were cardboard.

My friend Greg Rammel has his shop paneled with Ducati and Bimota crate sides, varnished to preserve. Attached are two photos which I think I posted here before. Lots of neat bikes in these photos including a SP3. A link to an article about Greg:
