Hi Folks, This is my SP3, build # 298, that I just purchased. It has been in storage since 1993. I have had a full service and tune done, new tyres, new braided lines, new screen, new carbon guards and new clutch cover. The original grips and bar-ends are coming. It has just 4,719kms on it. I am taking it out for a big ride this Saturday. Can't wait. Hope you enjoy the pics.
Best Regards,
Markus

Yeah sorry about that. Upload is failing. Maybe too big?? Will keep on trying

Wow, sounds like a great find. how'd it come about?
markus_sp3
Private sale. I'm in Melbourne and it looks like you're in Sydney. This bike was in North Nowra. BTW, my photos are about 2MB each. Is this why they won't upload? Too big?

Real nice SP3 Markus. The oil cooler looks vulnerable to stones thrown up from the front wheel though. Maybe you could adapt a fairing 'V' piece from the later 888 to fit?
markus_sp3
Yes, I think the "V" piece would fit right in. I have had some alloy mesh covers made up for both the oil cooler and the radiator, which you can just see in the photo. I'll see how they go. Want to keep it as original as possible..

Ah yes! Had to brighten the screen on my monitor to see them. They look tidy, and should do the job. The bike looks mint.

Good question. Looks like a repair though I cannot zoom in clearly enough to say. Can't wait for the answer (or a better picture).

I don't think that is standard.
Indeed a repair thing.

Compliance plate maybe.

Hi Guys,
No repairs. It is the Australian Compliance plate. Basically has the VIN and the compliance date (4/91). That's all.

Markus, I have been away from forum for quite some time due to work. What a nice return by seeing pics of your fantastic SP3. It's is morning in Italy now, and it will be for sure to me, a good day, because of yr 851 sight. It's rare to see a so well kept bike. As 851/888' lover, it's always a pleasure to admire a so perfect and well kept bike, so, please receive my congratulation for your 'baby'. Please treat 'her' with care and love !!! I appreciate so much, your intention to keep her as original as possible. I have a question now : please explain the silver lower part of frame as, it's not clear to me from photo.
Ciao!

Hi Tony, Thanks for the comments. The silver lower part of the frame that you refer to is the Australian Compliance plate. All Australian cars and motorcycles must have one of these fitted, or else they cannot be registered. It has the VIN (Frame number) and the compliance date (4/91) stamped in to it. The plate itself is made from aluminium and is attached to the frame. I will post a detailed photo, as lots of questions about this!
