Just a quick note to defend us "collectors" out there. I love Ducati's, and I have a collection I am happy with. Some sit in my garage "gathering dust" as some here would say, because to me they are every bit as valuable as unridden works of engineering art. I do not want to open up the can of worms on whether these bikes should or should not be ridden. I have ridden all of mine, but I am not happy with the way collectors are often made to feel like less of a motorcycle enthusiast because they refuse to take their particular motorcycle out on the road or track and flog the shit out of it. To each his own, and we should all support that. We all love the same things essentially, right? Beautiful Ducati's.....

PRD,
Mate I have full respect for all persons who value shear brilliance ( Ducati's ) now the Kit 851 that I now own was in layman terms owned by an avid enthusiast.
If it was not for this wonderful Gent then simple I would own a very irresistible piece of Ducati Engineering.
So I do appreciate the collectors out there.

It seems to me.......
As this dealer is Dutch,
maybe his email response came out of an online translator having taken an unfortunate shift in it's meaning. I know that I've had to decifer some odd prose where 'babelfish' turned out to be the culprit. Though, weird telephone manner.....?
It being someone's 'lucky day',
Most people want to get a fair price AND have the buyer feel he has bought well, a 'win win' situation based on moral principal.
Collectors,
Who here would not be in that position if they could?
It is true to say the best Ducati's become VERY valuable with the passage of time?
I think it was back in the 1800's that Schopenhauer wrote βAll truth passes through three stages. Ridicule, opposition and acceptance.β
By the way,
I came across this, any idea what it's market value might be?
"This is my 1974 Ducati 750 Super Sport. The bike is 100% correct and 100% original, right down to the original (crappy) tires and (only fair) shocks. It still has its original paint, thus it looks bronze in color rather than silver. The clear coats on these bikes always go bronze after a while. The original decals on are on the bike and have shrunk slightly and twisted over the years. The motorcycle has 2421 km = 1501 miles on the clock."

Spike will be salivating all over that bevel later! π

I can't help but think Schopenhauer's concept of there being three stages of truth seems to hold water as we have had ridicule and opposition and now with this ss750 being so valuable it seems to be evident that sometimes high asking prices are justified and people are 'accepting' it by paying them, I mean the ss750 was the top of the range roadbike of 1974, around 400 were produced (100 888SPS) and it was special in that it was breathed on by the raceshop, I supposed these facts are true for the 888sps too,
The 1974 ss750, the 888SPS of it's day?

Some amongst us worry about how much they're worth, or how much they will be worth...
Others just ride them, which's what they were built for IMO.
Not to ride these bikes is a complete waste in my book, I'll leave my children to fight over what I leave behind me. π
'You can't spend it when your dead and if you never rode them, you can't ask for another life when you're gone...
There IS NO 2nd chance!
The one who dies with the most toys doesn't win if he never actually used them...
Rather he just wasted the chance whilst counting his money.
Lets put it this way...
I had the sexiest wife/girlfriend in the world but I never shagged her.
Can you see my point now?
If you can FFS get a life before it's to late lads.

Now that's just plain showing off. π Does the owner know a bloke called Russell Ellis, he was a mate of my dads that was into vintage cars big time years ago, and moved to NZ. He has a son called Cameron.

Sorry can't answer that one, the car belongs to one of the Southwards, of Southwards Car Museum fame, which has the largest collection of vintage, veteran and other interesting cars in NZ. Showing Off - why waste a good audience.

Just purchased the 1992 888 SP4S (#2!) from Holland!
Hello everyone,
I just bought the #2 1992 888 Sp4S or 888 SPS as it's known in some circles. I could not be happier! A few things I found out...
1-The #1 numbered 1992 888 SP4S is no longer due to it being involved in a severe accident. Therefore # 2 is now effectively the #1 bike as it were.
2-#2 Is SHOWROOM and still wears the ORIGINAL tires with the nipples still on them as the bike was never raced or tracked. Rims are scratch free and perfect
3-#2 Still has the original battery and regulator installed from the factory as delivered
4- #2 Comes with ALL keys and paperwork, including manuals...All original.
5-#2 Is ALL original and not restored (3,400KMS), I purchased it off the second owner who had it for 7 years.
I could not be happier with this purchase. To find a worthy 888 SP4S would be exceptional, but to find a museum example that is now the lowest number to be found in showroom as new condition is unreal. They will have to bury me with this bike! I really feel that the 750SS bevel drive is the water mark for the bevel drives and the SP4S is the water mark for the belt drive models. I was actually just about to pull the trigger on a Desmosedici when I found this SP4S, I feel I could always get a Desmosedici but an SP4S like this only comes up once in a long while if you're lucky. I will attempt to load some pictures that the dealer sent me. Please don't ask what I paid, suffice to say that I got a good deal considering that this 888SP4S is the best example to be found anywhere in unrestored perfect condition. These bikes are only appreciating, one could buy the latest "R" model and loose 50% in the first two to three years. Some things are not about money, the older I get the more this rings true. Also I'm located in Calgary, Alberta. Canada. This bike is perfectly legal for the road here. Be well my friends
Ciao,
Francesco
