Well I was preparing to bid on the Supermono....😄

But an SPS for 40K is just soooo tempting

What is going on with these prices?

Lets bring the price war down and keep our bikes on the road and out of the collectors vacuum bag long term storage never to be seen again world of people that collect wine that is already well out of date.

SPS commanded approx. £2300 premium over an SP4 when retailed in 1992.

If you had £16.650k to spend an SPS was quite good value compared to an SP4 because of the upgrades. Now that SPS ownership is likely to cost double that of a good SP4 the table is turned.

Looks and performance of these two bikes is so very close, why anybody would pay such a ridiculous premium over the SP4 is beyond me.

Which I have to agree with. OK, so the 888 SPS has got some extra bhp and a few nice mods, but the SPS & SP4 look identical. Just messing around with the sprockets gets an SP4 pretty damn close to the SP figures. I guess what you're paying for is the 'closest thing to a real Ducati corsa from 1992'. I posted a thread a few months back about what the mileage was on forum member's bikes. I just went over 40,000 kms. OK, so it's not all mine, but I'm not scared to get out on the bike and rack up the miles. However, those of a collector mindset will just leave their 851/888 in the garage gathering dust.

The bike in question has been on offer now for about 6 month's !!!

The owner who I have spoken with is a typical hard core Duke enthusiast, but money talks and bull shit walks ( Sorry but the Truth Hurts ) he will sell if the cash is true, so in Holland it's a GIFT, for us poor bustards down under the SPS never made it to our splendid shores, pity real pity.

So correct it's a gift, Jack mate grab the Super Mono first & if you have some coin left then go for the SPS.

My personal view only !!!

Guy, come on now lets be sensible, no sp4s is worth 40k, I've had mine from new, have spent almost as much on it as I paid for it in 1992, therefore it is not 100% original, however I would like to think that I could get half that for mine.

I guess he is not looking for a buyer ... just putting it on his list like he did before on his old site. And perhaps there is someone who would pay 40k for it and than he has a good deal 😄

I had a e-mail conversation with the seller and he said and I quote " 40 d if you want to deal you have to visit me. But don't think it's your lucky pricy day. reg marc"

Sadly it won't be his lucky pricy day (sic) either!

Clearly something is worth what someone will pay for it but bearing in mind they made a 100 SPS's I reckon a good one is worth £20K. An SP3S on the other hand, of which they made 16, may well be worth £35K if you could find an original one!

Correct Jack,

The SP3S was a cracker & as you stated only 16 examples were pushed out the door of the factory.

Most guys are un-aware that this was the case, would like to know where they are just now, and how many have survived the race track.

Wish my pick up was there to collect one of them at the time of production.

In July 07 the very knowledgeable Mr R said he had never heard of a SP3S, well neither have I, anyone got any info/pictures, I am sure there would be a lot of interest.

There is a photo of Simon Le Bon's sp3s (looks like a sp3 with a carbon tank - it even looks like it has standard Brembo wheels - now if I had paid what ever they sold for back then I would least expect some Mag!).

All this talk of sp3s and sp4s for 25 grand, 40 grand making me feel very poor!
