mrc.engr wroteYou're certainly more right than wrong about anodized alum fading as time goes on. I do believe however, it's more about the quality of the anodizing that plays the greatest part of fading or not. There's always this aspect of buying custom made parts, but one does what they think is best for them under distressed circumstances. 🙁
Also, being one that's learned to get parts when available, I bought the anodized tubes (at a very reasonable price mind you) as a back-up to finding the CF sleeves I really want to use. The old saying of "A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush" really is something I've learned the hard way over the years.
Thanks for your thoughts and comments.
Amen to that Mike,
I always pick up parts that come available (when funds allow) to tuck away for the future, as you never know when you might need them.
However sometimes plans change...
Only this week a fellow forum member, who's recently had a bad 'off' on his SP4 contacted me about some OEM fairing panels that I've got.
I told him how much I'd paid for them, that I no longer needed them as I've now gone down the Corse/Carbon route along with a complete spare set of lightweight Fibreglass spares, so as long as he covered my costs he could have them to get his bike back on the road.
I've got/gained the satisfaction of helping a fellow enthusiast to get another 851/888 back on the road, it's cost me no more than a bit of leg work.
In my experience 'What goes around comes around', one day a fellow forum member might be in the position to help me.
Paul,
I'm sorry but most of the dealings for these panels were carried out via PM's and the phone, there was absolutely nothing underhand in these dealings mate, sometimes it's easier this way.
A forum member asks if anyone's got certain parts and a fellow member replies.
I can't see a problem here?
If I was only interested in making a profit, I'd of just floated these parts in the Classified section and possibly let a fellow forum member in desperate need be outbid.
Personally I'd rather help the member in immediate need, even if that meens using PM's, e-mails or the phone...
Just my thoughts on the subject.
