Progress so far on the '93 BSB Fogarty rep.
Race seat unit fitted, bit of a pain getting the cut out for the rear light to line up. Strengthened underneath the seat with extra layers of grp.
Next stage is dry fitting the fairing on the custom alloy front subframe.

jr60 you confused me with the white frame, I thought that style of seat unit wouldn't fit on earlier chassis frames.
However looking carefully at the picture it appears your bike is from 1992 onwards. Is it a genuine SP4 as you have the Ohlins? (forgot that the SP4 were white frames for a second.)

sp2 boy:
Yes the bike is a '92 - the best combination! - white frame, later style tank and seat unit and black wheels!
No, the bike started out as a lowly strada (as has been said before if it was an sp4 I would keep it as is - more freedom to play with a strada!).
However it has been sp'd - ohlins forks, shock, steering damper, alloy rear subframe, 888 barrels with fancy heads, (sp headers and tail pipes on way - hopefully) etc - just waiting for that c/f undertray that you are putting together to clean up the rear - hopefully!
Long term plan is to keep adding to it until I have enough to build a second bike!
Tiz851:
The seat unit came with a full race fairing I bought from a guy that had his 888 stolen a long time ago and the stuff had been sitting around for a while.
I do not know what the maker is, to be honest the seat unit is not very good quality (quite a rough mould that will take a lot of work to get it looking right). The actual fairing is better quality.
I would say that the german ones are better - before I got this one I looked into their stuff and heard good reports on it.
My main concern was to strengthen it as the sp/corse seat sits on the unit and not on the subframe like the strada. Only real hassle was to get the cut out for the rear light unit to line up evenly around the rear light itself.
Do you see the bike cover in the background - Ducati Firenze - was on holiday there a few months ago and called into the shop bought a few things and the owner gave me this cover. Heading to your home country again next week for a weeks skiing in Cortina - seem to spend a lot of time in Italy for some reason!!

Alloy front subframe finished!
Got the alloy subframe today, made by a mate and as you can see from the pics a very nice job it is. Weights less than half of the original (that wasn't really the reason). Exactly the same as the original except for the brackets for the headlight (not needed).
It was made in a local shipyard here (don't mention the Titanic) who now do a lot of aluminum stuff. Think it turned into a bit of a challenge for the guy. He gave me the jig he used to make it so others are possible but it weights about half a ton!

That's a cracking job mate.Beats my bent steel one!!I wouldn't mind one in ally.

Fairing Fitted!!
Things starting to take shape now - fairing dry fitted, pretty hassle free considering the front subframe. Only real problem was reprofiling the inside of the side fairing to fit the v-piece.
Also on show new set of high level sil-motor pipes, get a phone call at the weekend from a local guy who has had a set sitting in his garage since the '90's - heard I had a 888 do I want them!? This is after getting a set off Mike(sps) to do up, however they will also come into use (what another 851?).
Next stage rubbing down ๐ then off to be painted. May have had a change of mind about the Foggy '93 paint scheme!

Nice work jr60
jr60
Fitted and tidied up the rear end, kept all the electrics under the seat unit instead of moving them to the front, a la corsa's.
The undertray is only a f/g version 1 by sp2boy, will use it until the c/f one is ready.
I fitted the power group plate flat as I wanted to mount it using 4 of the anti-vibration mounts direct to the undertray. The black box cable tied to it is the alarm unit (will eventually take it off). Ignore the jubilee clip on the remote reservoir, temporary - getting bracket made up.

good work going on there, watching this with interest as i'm about to start the rebuild of mine.

First test ride!
Nearly there, hopefully get the fairing from painter today - then have to put the road pipes and rearsets on for mot then back off again!
marvin
Looks great!! Did you get your dash yet?
jr60
Cheers Marvin, yes got the dash from Guy along with a few other bits. I totally forgot to PM you to say thanks with trying to get the bike sorted. Great job, sticking with the road dash until I can source a SPA combined Tach/Odo type unit for it.

Hi Jonathan,
The cheapest I've seen them is $375.00 USD
http://www.nextag.com/SPA--2700001/racing-tachometer/brand-html
A while back I found it for $335.00 but can't find it now.
I got the plain model, wish now i had gotten the speedo model. I will just use a bicycle speedo.
Cheers,
Marvin

Jonathan,
Great job! Have you decided on the Fogarty paint job or not?
Do you think that the carbon under tray will be strong enough to support the ECU and electrics? I have fitted mine to the sub-frame but I can imagine it cracking quite quickly if I add the ECU and the electric panel.
Unfortunately headlights are compulsory here, so I may have to put the P8 in a rucksack. ๐
Keep the photos coming.
griff851
The tray is more than up to the task. Tested on some of the finest shit roads in the country. The Aluminum sub frame is more of a concern.

As you can see Mike went for the Foggy paint job (like the pipes? - fitted for the mot). The undertray I have fitted is only temp until sp2boy makes the carbon one and is quite thin, but even it seems to be up to the job.
However all not well, painter had a bit of a disaster when putting the final coat of lacquer on ย it started to craze, can't really see it on the photo's but quite bad. Don't know if it was put on too soon (he was in a rush) or just one of those things. He may be able to salvage it or have to start again, but has promised to put it right, got the fairings of him for the mot and will use it at the NW at the weekend.
F*cking annoying to say the least๐ก

Hi Johnathon,

What is it with painters? They know we want it perfect and we always have to send it back๐
She is looking stunning and well done for getting it all done on time. I am very happy to see the parts that were gathering dust in my loft put to good use.
Enjoy
