Raising the seat height...?

Apologies if this has been covered, I did a search but couldn't find anything

I am really struggling with the seat being so low, my legs are ridiculously cramped (standard road foot pegs / hangers)

Has anyone managed to fit a taller seat or any other solutions ?

Hey, never too late to answer, juste coming back to the forum.

Due To my long legs, my old age, and mainly to reduce my back pains, i increased the seat height, lower a little bit the foot rests, and made manufacture some New brackets (you need to buy a cheap fiber head fairing to cut it and a new longer breaking tube)

Please note this is a 89/90 model with the M1R fork where you can easily install brackets below the Upper T.

The position and handling are so confortable now (near a ST2/3/4 position😅) that i decided to not sale it and go to 100.000kms (72000 today, original engine a little bit tuned).

Hoping this could help Guys that consider this bike is a harddrug.

Have liftet the rear end a bit on the race bikes .. better Steering, more Ground clerance (foot rest etc) and significant more Seat Heights..

I lowered the footrests by 2" using alloy plates bolted between the frame and footrest mounts, then fitted a thicker closed cell foam seat pad.

Hi Andrew,

I'm pretty shit at anything to do with the internet, however my eldest daughter will be at home for the next 3 days. When she comes home from the beach I'll try to get her to take some pic's.
I've a large sheet of 8mm dural here and could make you up a pair of plates to do the job, you might need a longer rod for the gear change though? (It's a very easy job to make up one of these) I didn't need one as I run reversed "GP" style gearchange.
I'll be over on the Island for the Classics/MGP next month stopping in Port Erin, I could bring them with me and help you fit them...They won't cost the earth mate.

Just to make sure, I've got an SP3 which has a different footrest mounting to the later SP bikes (which you obviously know...). Not sure what your bike is?

I live right over in Suffolk, so collecting things in person might not be possible. If the plates are what I imagine them to be I can probably fit them. I used something similar to move the rear brake master cylinder when I fitted some "Corse-style" rearsets years ago - saved cutting the fairing!

I hadn't realised it was for a SP3, my mods fit a later '92 Strada/SP4/SPS/SP5.*
...and yes it is that hot down here in Cornwall, this lunch time when I opened up my workshop the temp' was 98f in the shade. I'm not surprised that everyone apart from me has gone to the beaches.

*However it shouldn't be a hard job to make up some plates to suit your frame.
I carried out a similar mod on the footrest positions on my '79 900SS, but this did involve welding new mounting points on the frame.
Old age can be pretty shit, but only the really lucky ones get to moan about it.😏

Like the last sentence, very true!

I'd still be interested to see the plates for the later bikes, if your daughter doesn't mind. This is what we did for the rear brake m/c, could probably do something along the same lines for the footrests?

98F, nice summer day. 98F and 90% humidity, gets interesting. 105F and I have a tendency not to go out with the chainsaw or attack the raging grass with my industrial size line trimmer. 120 in the shed and I spend a lot of time doing things fairly slowly. 124F I pack it in and go sit in the A/C.
Drink crap loads of water, and plod along. Don't chop and change between cool indoors and hot outdoors, stay with one or the other if possible. It doesn't stress you body out as much. You get use to it, like you get use to snow! And if you feel a little woozy, get a wet towel on your neck asap. Your about to get heat stroke and that's life threatening.

I have extension plates on my bevel. The 75 corse even had them. QED totally acceptable ducati mod. 😁

I am thinking its the seat height that needs to go up as the pegs seem quite close to the ground (but I could be wrong !) ?
