Who cleaned the throttle bodies, JHP? Were they vapour blasted?

Throttle bodies and regulator were cleaned with a toothbrush and carb cleaner aerosol - and wide open garage door!

Bracketry, springs, screws, rods all stripped cleaned up then replated zinc and yellow by Daventry Metal Finishers

JHP cleaned the green injectors, changed the filters and flow checked them.

Oil Cooler Hoses

So, back to DIY plating for these - not happy with the results though I'll persevere.
All plating removed with Harpic Power Plus 10X bleach in about 5 minutes.
Polished up with scotchbrote on a dremel fitting

Have been able to procure a NOS pair for less than £100 for the stash of spares
Longest one being hardest to come by as its NLA according to my local dealer but I think on Stein @ >€200
Shorter one is NLA for the 888 however appears to be identical to 900SS which is still affordable

Reworked Pistons

Glad the site is up and running again - thanks to those involved.

So quick update.

From being fully assembled we moved onto timing of cams where it became apparent there was a very slight contact between 37mm valves and the top edge of the 37mm pockets in pistons.

Upon inspection the pockets were very slightly off centre (0.2mm) to the piston centreline so we decided to correct and them and increase to 38mm.

So, with trusty Bridgeport and an angle plate, set about clamping through the gudgeon pin, clocking horizontal and with a boring bar cut some metal.

In all a total of just under 1.5g was removed from each piston.

I would always cut the valve pockets to +1mm to clear the valves, 38mm would allow 0.5mm clearance around the valve for safety's sake.
They're very big valves for a 888/94mm bore, what cams are you using?
I'm running 37/32mm valves for a 955/96mm bore with T1 9*6 SPS cams, the big valves suit these fast opening short duration cams, they don't suit the earlier long duration cams as well.

I was going to run 996SPS cams as I got a good deal on a VI and HE cams but got fed up waiting for the others to come along. Have since sold them.

Dave Allenby (https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?...0257914&type=3) is confident A1's will deliver enough grunt. We did consider G cams but again couldn't find any - plus I don't want to be pushing power up the rev range.

Engine is almost ready

Hi everybody.
Been getting back into the swing of things and making a little more progress.
Cams timed today.

Looking good there chap.
Is that a real Corse Mag' clutch housing or a painted/modified OEM alloy one?
I've a Corse mag' one on my bike it saved a whole 7oz's, the Corse mag alternator cover saved 11 oz's.
So that was just over 1lb saved... Now where's my pie!

Edit... Is there a reason that your water temp' sensor is on the wrong side of your motor?

I machined the standard clutch cover which was Cerakoted sniper green by Wesley at hi-speccoatings.co.uk
He also did the standard one too in black....

I'll ask the engine builder why the temp sensors on the belt side.

Another little job

So, due to the unobtanium nature and price of orginal rotors I decided to build a pair to use on the bike and keep stashed away the brand new set I did manage to find courtesy of Jonny Sidemouth on Facebook, thank you.

Carriers courtesy of Chris Bridgeland, thank you, whom I believe may have a couple more sets if anyone wants to follow my route. These are cerakoted as opposed to anodised and in a tougher aluminium.

Rotors from All Bike Engineering in stainless rather than iron. I'm sure they'll be happy to supply more now they have my original pattern for shape, hole pattern and countersinking.

Used new original Brembo bobbins and rather than spring washers I used 0.5mm shims as that appears to be how my originals were mounted. I did try wavy spring washers however they removed all sideways movement completely and I felt were too stiff.

All finished off with some securing Araldite.

Not happy with the SilMoto exhaust hangers

So when offering up the exhaust brackets in aluminium they don't sit well with me so I've had a go at making some in carbon fibre.

Mould making kit, sheet of carbon and some resin and hardener from easycomposites.

carbon is 200 gram and there are 4 layers vacbagged in the mould.

I have a dilema. The bodywork is now too good to go on the bike and be used 😁
