Ok, so here's the deal. The bike is finally together and last week I decided to wheel it out to the garage and gas it up and give it a go (starting). That was short-lived. The pump took about 20 tries to actually turn. Couldn't (wouldn't) get more than 10 psi fuel pressure on my Marshall gauge. I even switched out the adjustable reg for the standard and no change. I didn't even bother trying to start it and ended up buying a new fuel pump.

I got a Walbro pump and fitted everything. Wheeled her back to the garage tonight. With the outlet fuel line (inside the tank) unplugged so I could see the fuel flow, I turned the key on. Pump started right away and fuel shot out of the hose. However, when I fitted the hose back I could only get 10 psi at the gauge. I tried to start the bike anyway. Got her to fire up but only for momentary stints... five to ten seconds at a time, with some backfiring ever so often through the airbox. Neither the airbleeds or the trim have been set. I had to stop what I was doing as I had a small fuel leak from where the sending unit attaches as I removed it but didn't refresh the oring and it looked pretty bad.

Any suggestions on the low psi? Are my fuel lines too long or doesn't that make any difference? I've got the pressure reg on one side of the bike with the lines leading to the opposite side to the tee which holds the pressure gauge and then to the front tb.. to the rear tb and back to the tank.

I need to remove variables to see where the restriction is. Everything is plumbed properly. I'd really like to utilize the pressure gauge so I can keep track of fuel pressure which will tell me if pump is failing or filter is clogged. I guess I could just put the 3 bar reg on the tb's, and run shorter lines without the gauge to see if I can keep the bike running so I can tune it. Would just like to know what the problem is as of now.

ps. I THINK I FIGURED IT OUT! I've got the regulator hooked up in the wrong place. I have it hooked up in the beginning of the fuel cycle where as it should be at the end. I just looked at a pic of the stock tb's with the adj reg and saw that the outlet in fact went BACK to the tank. I guess I didn't quite understand how the fuel regulator functions. It works as a dam to build up the pressure behind.
