Hello all,
I was recently reunited with my first love... my 1992 851! It's been sitting for 20 years (long story, driven by relocation from the USA to Sweden, growing family, etc.), but now it's time to get it going again. The bike was recently shipped to me here in Sweden and I've started pulling it apart.
Specs:
1992 851 Strada
888 high compression kit
FBF slipons
Nichols lightened flywheel
Pankl rods
My plans are to go through it to make sure there isn't any internal damage from storage (none found, yet) and also to improve key features while following Brad Blacks research (thanks for the generous info, Brad!) so I got an ST4 exhaust system and a PCIII. Will set the squish, mill the heads and time the cams. Also have Nichols engine bolts, RaceTech gold valves and springs, rebuild kits for the brakes, new clutch slave, etc. Will put in relays for the lights, new wiring for battery and stator, lithium battery, mosfet recitfier, along with whatever I can think of to make it as reliable as possible.
So, first question (of many...):
I've pulled off the vertical cylinder and found this piston. From what I was told, "it has an 888 high compression kit in it...". I haven't pulled the piston out to confirm, but this looks like a Pistal. If that's the case, can anyone tell me what the compression would be? It would've been bought between 1990 and 1994. The Pistal website just says "HC" next to a number of their pistons but no hard numbers. I am considering milling the head but maybe this piston, along with the squish setting will put me in the right compression ratio range.
Thanks for any help,
Peter
