Hi everyone
I need a new shock for my 1990 851 (early model with MR1 front forks) Can someone recomend a sensible shock. I do not and will not be doing lots of miles on this bike so I don't need to blow the budget!
It still has the original which I will simply hold on to!
If anyone can point me in a direction that would be great!
Thanks

I don't know if the original is rebuildable or not--I would think it is. If so, that's your best option. If not then maybe you can find another original one that is marginally more functional(I think early M900 works too). But while it may be cheaper, you're just temporarily delaying a long term solution.
I think there are UK options (Nitron, etc), but at that point you might as well look at Ohlins or Penske too.

Ohlims Du 440 and stick a longer hose on it. Your whole world will change.

At the other end of the scale on price AKA Value For Money...
You could try Hagon's who will make a functional shock (with a 2 year guarantee) for you for very little money.
A friend of mine (now RIP) bought one for his 851 and was very happy with it.
Or try Two Wheel Classics (aka TWC) who import YSS shocks to the UK.
Jim who owns/runs TWC has run a 996cc/888 racer in the past, that has won races and I know it ran a YSS shock.
Myself I run Maxton modified Ohlins units front and back but...
I've also in the past run K-Tech modified standard 851/888 units and been pretty happy with them.
You pays your money and makes your choice chap!

Thanks guys, I just need pointing in a direction. I don't mind spending good money but just making the point I don't/won't do a lot of miles.
I would quite like the idea of having it rebuilt to be fair!
