After falling in love with the Ducati 851/888 model, I decided to build my own from scratch. I started buying an Ducati 851 strada frame from 1990 to begin with. After that all the other parts followed. I got the frame sand blasted and powdercoated to make it look as new.

That is almost a rolling chassis. You are on the right place to get the right parts. Just put an ad in the for sale section.

From what I can see in your picture, I think you may have an early Monster swing arm (no vertical tabs for the 888 rear fender) so you may have to use a Monster rear fender.

Yes, from the original shape Monster 900 with double sided swing arm, but not the 93 or 94 Monster as they had the vertical tab fitting, same as the 851 and 888.

This is indeed an monster 900 swingarm. I believe it is from an M900 IE.

Got myself an 05 S4R engine today, stuffed it in the frame.

Here an update from my build of the Ducati 851. I managed o get an 851 alu-subframe. Also got the wheels sandblasted and powdercoated in black. Next thing to buy are some nice brake rotors, so that I can install the front wheel and front forks. Does anybody have a recommendation for exhaust headers that will fit on the s4r/st4s engine combined with the 851 without the need to modify it?

The S4R engine is the same as the ST4S (996cc). The ST4 and the S4 are the same (916CC). But thank you for the tip! 😉

Good to see progress on your project.

I think normal 851/888 exhausts fit even the drop cam heads, but I know they will for sure if you swap to superbike (996) heads (and belts).

I have fitted Silmoto spaghetti headers, originally for a 888 and unmodified, to a ST4 engine in my 888.
So therefore the stock ones will fit too.
I believe all the ports are in the same spot.

Fortunately I managed to get my hands on a nice set of full floating braking discs. I mounted them and put the forks in the yokes so that it is able to stand on both wheels. After some research on the web I found out that the iron rotors require organic brake-pads. Does anyone have any recommendation on which organic brake-pads are the best to use for sportive street riding?
