Brad. In the past I've made an adapter to use the old style TPS because I have all of the "stuff" to burn chips (I bought a dozen on fleabay a while back), dual channel data logger, etc. I have thought about playing ith the 5.9 and see now that the software is out there. Is there any way to do a TPS reset without the expensive math. tester or the other one that you linked in your blurb on your site?

you mean a linear tps reset? guzzidiag or their iawdiag offshoot does all that shit.

get the lonelec cable. we can play when i get there. it's all pretty easy.

datalogging?

Marvin, I'm curious what dataloging setup you're using. I'm trying to find a relatively inexpensive solution to improve and develop a delta map for my SPO. I was thinking of duct taping a lappy running IAWDiag or equivalent to my tail section/tank but then I'd have to sort out the wideband O2 sensor data as well. I'm on a P8 system still. Any suggestions would be appreciated! Thanks 😄

I have an Innovate LM-2 dual channel data logger. Welded bungs in the head pipes for the O2 sensors

I use a Zeitronix ZT-2 and their "black-box" datalogger. It works perfectly and is very small. Mine is one channel bit their system allows to connect a ZT-3 and have another channel. As per the Innovate system, it's not cheap though...

By the way, EEPROMs (electrically eraseable chips) can be used and they are a tad more flexible than EPROMS as changes can be made on the go with the chip burner. I use to use them to adjust fuelling on customers' bikes. Once satisfied I burn the file in an EPROM for the customer and presto!

It is true though that a chinese EPROM eraser can be bought from eBay for peanuts...

I've only used them on 1.6's, I'll post the EEPROM chip reference stamped on them tomorrow (they are at the workshop).

FWIW, the LM-2 is kinda cheesey! Also I welded the bungs in because Rick tried just putting the O2 sensor in the exhaust and it didn't work very well. He ended making a pipe extension for the exhaust with the O2 sensor in it and a shop Vac to pull the exhaust through it.

how do you erase the eeprom?

With the EPROM burner. When you select an EEPROM chip, the 'Erase' feature becomes available.
You need to first erase the chip, then burn It again.

The only advantage of the Microtec unit is that programming it is user friendly. If you know how yo tweak 59-5As, they do the same thing. It is possible to use a Microtec to tune a bike on dyno (real-time and pretty straight-forward) and then edit the original MM 59/5A and flash the resulting map in It. Cheaper for the customer...
By the way, Microtec does NOT support offset ignition mapping. Not really antes issue, though.

Why do you burn it on a EPROM? Why not just leave it on the EEPROM?

I purchased the Genius chip burner on eBay for $50. works fine, only peeve is when erasing EEPROMS I have to hit the erase button a bunch of times to fully erase it. Haven't tested other EEPROMS though. BTW, you can erase EPROMS too. Providing they have the crystal (quartz) window, you can put them under a UV light for 2-3 minutes and VOILA! ERASED!
