Rear shock swap

friend has a broken shocky on his 1988 851.

can a first gen monster shock replace it?

I think (at least in the later 851's ) that the remote res. line is a different length and tha angle of the hose as bolted on the shock is different on the Monster shock.

The 1st Ohlins shock that I fitted to my '92 851 was intended for a 900 Monster.
Apart from having to mount the remote reservoir in a different place (and change the spring for a lighter weight bike) it was 100% OK.

I just replaced the Showa for a new Monster Ohlins with 851 spring. I placed the reservoir under the side panel since the hose is way too short for the oem placement.
Rides like a dream.
