Best base for project bike

So, after 20years of owning my SP5 and modifying it to the best of my ability with either hand made or corsa parts, i have decided to embark on another project!

I want to put the SP5 back to standard(i have all the original parts) and wish to build another bike with all my Corsa bits. I just need a frame and engine. I really would like to keep to 888 or 926? So think the st4 maybe the best way to go. I don’t want 996.Can the 916 be converted to 926?

I know there have been loads done?

A 926 is 64mm stroke (851,888) and the bore is 96mm. Cases would have to be bored to fit the 96mm jugs, don't know if an 8851/888 crank is compatable with the 916 cases or not.

I made a 907 out of my 851 by boring 916 cylinders to 95mm, did not need to bore the cases.

(Early 748 jugs can be bored to 95 mm's as well I'm told)

P.S. Just thinking about it the 888 crank would work if you used all of the other 888 stuff like left side cover, flywheel, etc. You would then have to use a P7-8. I don't know if there is any way you could use the 1.6 or 5.9 ECU that the S4 would have

If you used the 916 66mm crank and bored it to 96mm you would have a 955.

Yes, as far as I now. I was told that 95mm was as far as you could bore 916 cylinders safely so you will have to source some 96mm cylinders/pistons. You will also have to address the fueling differences somehow

Or go 944 rather than 955 as the parts are more obtainable?
2nd go 996 with a Monster or ST4S as a starter.

Yes, a 944 is another (cheaper) option. A 944 is 94mm bore and 68mm stroke (SS crank).

It all depends on what type of engine you prefer. A long stroke,high torque, low rpm engine or a short stroke, high HP, high rev engine.

Another option is to use a 748 crank and 94mm bore to make a 853. I would use deshrouded 748 heads (smaller combustion chamber, high compression)and Pistal pistons (what I did on my 907 engine using the 851 crank)

i don't think the bore and stroke combination will make any real difference at all to how it feels. gearbox, cam/cam timing, crank/flywheel weight, inlet and exhaust will all have much more influence.
