MrBenn Hello everyone. I tend to not like asking questions but I have a question I cannot resolve with the help of the internet and manuals alone. I know the 888 and 916 pistons are both 94mm but I presume the barrels are different heights due to the different stroke (and probably the pistons differ in height too). I have an S4 engine that I am building that has a 916 crank but the bottom end has one bank missing and the other cylinder is destroyed (retrospectively I probably shouldn't have purchased it but I'm too far in now). Thanks, everybody. Alan
marvin cylinder are the same. Crank and pistons are different P.S. Cylinders are the same length and bore but I do seem to remember that the alignment pins aren't in the same location. It's been a while since I went there but check with someone who has a better memory than I.
brad black the 888 piston has 1mm more compression height, and is a bit heavier. the locating dowels in the cases moved with 2002 models from lh (90 degrees from centre) to lh 45 degree off centre.
MrBenn Thank you Thank you Brad and Marvin. I will be ordering some 916 pistons and barrels from a well-known auction site then. My plan to use some "leftover bits" is not going to work too well.
brad black there are some differences in cylinder length with model years, again around 2000. they went to a thinner head gasket too.
