I have got my hands on a NOS Showa Rear shock for an 91 851. I have a 93 888 Strada that I am rebuilding and apart from the part numbers being different, I cannot see any real difference in the shock
36520171A - Showa for the 888
36520071A - Showa for the 851
Could it be the internal spring rates or just a part number...?
Any ideas?

Any ideas
Not sure if I asked a stupid, or hard question. Anyone have any thoughts?

I can't quite remember which digit in the part number signifies change in supplier or manufacture but it could be that one, has that familiar feel. My money would be it's the same shock.

Yes I,m sure it is as depending on which website you look it specifies fitting both bikes. Sometimes there are minute differences between suppliers so to keep track of the build they change the part number.

Thanks. It looks factory fresh and identical, apart from some grubby marks on the spring.
