griff851 MPEG in zip file of converting front 530 bevel sprocket to 520 using a ceramic tip, lathe running flat out. The flares are 0.2/0.3mm strips of swarf some over 500mm long. I only caught on fire twice in 5 sprockets. 😁 Very entertaining!ceramic cutting front sprocket.zip12.94MB
griff851 😁 I'll seems to be about keeping the tip hot. If you bimble, you dont get a swarf stream, then when you get to the teeth the tip chips. I went through 3 cutting surfaces of the 6 on 5 sprockets as it was. It was a contracted job to a machine shop, so tomorrow i'll Chat to the boss about technique (Zen master). I got the job because the lead machinist did one an trashed his tip on their new Colchester Triumph. Good fun hey, well worth a play.
