Engine Casings

G'day,

Can anyone give clarity as to which engine casings are compatible with late 888 Racing. I want to build 955, I have most parts but not sure on the best casings, not too concerned about period parts, just the most durable. Any help would be appreciated.

I believe st4 is the latest cast with the same stud pattern and swing arm bearing as the 851/888.
st4s have the 996 stud pattern.

I think the S4 cases are the same as the ST4 cases, those are supposed to be the strongest cases.

Did the st4/s4 ever get oil cooling on both pistons?
If I remember corect most of the engines only had oil cooling on the front cylinder until??
My 748R 01 does not have the rear cylinder oil cooling whilst my (what ever) ST4S cases in my 888/1026 have the cooling on both.
I belive the ST2 engines came in both types.

The late NOS ST4 cases that I have for my 955cc build, have the oil cooling jets under both front and rear pistons.
...and they spray from both sides of the crankcases.

They are numbered RB81002479. Bought them of ebay, sourced in the US.

Do you have the oil drillings on both vertical and horisontal ?

If yes, they are 01 or later...

Just took a look at my 00 and 01 cases... no major differences .. but check drillings as a start

You gotta help me a little more here. What exactly am I looking for? Where do I find those drillings? I read about those drillings before but didn't understand where to look.
