This bike located in UK is still an enigma for me.
Can you tell me more about it ???
Who was Graeme Richie ???
Phil911 ... curious !!!

Hi Phil
The bikes were ridden by Robert Dunlop and Jeremy McWilliams (both from over here in N.Ireland) in the British Supercup in the 1993 season (I think) and various other races – NW 200 etc. I think the bikes may have also raced in the TT but I don't know who the rider(s) was.
I think that one of the bikes is now owned by Steve, one of the guys that runs Motorapido – a Ducati dealership in Southampton. I bought my 851 from him (not the dealership – he has a bit of a collection of 851/888 including an orginal Tricolore racing and the rolling chassis from a Fallapa bike!).
Why the interest?

Trevor Nation raced the bike at the 92TT, finishing 8th!
Mark Farmer led the 93 Formula One TT at the end of the opening lap with what was to be the fastest lap of the race - 120.58mph.
He was three seconds ahead of Nick Jefferies with Phillip McCallen, who had been fastest in practice despite the shoulder injury he sustained at the North West 200, in third.
However, Farmer struck trouble on the second lap and came into the pits in fourth place with rear sprocket problems and retired.

Hi Phil,
I met Graeme a few times back in the early 80's, he was at the time racing a Pantah based racer and running his own Ducati servicing/tuning/breaking business GR Ducati I still have some of his price lists etc from those days.
At the time I was employed as a race engine builder/race mechanic and did a few deals with him over Ducati race spares.
He was a very softly spoken Scotsman and an all round nice guy!
When he sadly died at Brands riding a 888 (I think it was a Corse speced SP model) his wife carried on running his buisness for a while.
I also worked as a race mechanic/pit crew for Trevor Nation at the Bol D'or in 1980, Trev' was riding a P+M Honda that year teamed alongside my friend Keith who was at that time the fastest/best placed non works rider at the IOM TT.
The team was sponsored by 'The Police' pop/rock group with Sting as the lead singer.
I still have my Mechaniciens Photo ID and the sponsors 'T' shirt that I wore that weekend, we finished 1st F1 spec bike home and Best Newcomers even after we changed the gearbox cluster during the early morning!
We also won the private bet between the British riders/teams.
Keith (who also owned the bike) let me ride it in the final practice session, I remember being passed by Greg Hansford on the works Kawasaki towards the end of the Mistral straight, my bike was pulling 168mph at peak revs in top gear and Hansford's Kwaka went by with what seemed at least another 20-25mph!
I think the works Kawasaki's ran close to 1200cc that year?
I did 6 laps which had been agreed as part of the payment for my services for the weekend, it wasn't really allowed but with leathers of the same colour and a similar crash helmet, who was to know??

Jesus..., I knew it was because of a fatal crash they changed the technical rules of the 1-2 brake hoses, but it feels very strange after all those years to see the face of the person involved.
RIP Graham.

---> Excellent !!!!!!!!! 😁
But, did you fully enjoy because of the joke or were you scared to make a mistake on the bike ??

Very moving thread ... what a misfortune. Makes me want to check my trackbikes to see if the hoses are correct.

Hi Phil,
I really enjoyed the 'Canter' on the P+M Honda it was a fantastic bike to ride.
I only rode at 80% on the corners as it would have been more than my life was worth to bin it so close to the start of the race, Keith who owned the bike had seen me race a few times and knew I'd take good care of it.

Well that's an amazing link up there, and what a tale as well. I know on a road bike there is little chance of us losing the front mudguard, but I'm surprised that Ducati still fit hoses this way even on their very latest bikes. Although there are many books on Ducati racing history, they are all big names and don't really catch the essence of all the stuff that goes on behind the scenes and with privateers.
I've changed the hoses on my Monster to be two single lines and it certainly does feel better than OE, which I know should not any difference at all but it seems to to me.
griff851
I suppose the only real answer would be to have a single line from the master cylinder, that then runs into a two way hydraulic fuse. Then a line to each caliper. Then if one brake line gets torn off, the other will still work. Problem is it would be a bugger to bleed, and of coarse the extra weight issue you get on a race bike.
I have Kevlar race lines fitted (only good for 4 years then they need to be replaced, the UV breaks down the Kevlar), and I've been informed by a manufacturer that it doesn't take much to shear the Al fitting that goes on to the caliper. I doubt that the steel ones on a road bike would suffer much if the mudguard came off.

Hi Griff,
I think the idea behind splitting the hoses no lower than the bottom yolk is so that the hoses can be routed well clear of the mudguard, in case of a failure.
I run 2 seperate lines on all of my twin front disc set ups, with Stainless Steel shrouded lines and fittings, I'd NEVER use alloy fittings on a road bikes front brakes, as I feel the area is far too safety critical, I do use the alloy fittings on the clutch and oil lines though.
AP Lockheed made a front M/cylinder a couple of years ago with 2 seperate cylinder bores/pistons and a fail safe ballancing bar which ment that should one hose fail you'd still have at least 1/2 of the front brakes working.
I believe these units were made legal on production based race bikes in the States, after a rider had a bad off when his mudguard failed taking out his front brake?
I saw a picture of this M/cylinder in a 2007 bike magazine at work just this week, we've got piles of old bike mag's on the tables in the mess room at work, 4 of the 6 lads I work with are bikers.

I have on my SP4 steel 851 racing hoses, they go from 1 to 2 under the bottom yoke. These aren't allowed for racing anymore. Now the 1-2 split has to be above the bottom yoke.

I agree Steve, stainless is the way to go on the road, but what can I say, free lines are free lines. I have a real set to replace them when they time ex. The rear is stainless. The clutch Al/Kevlar.

Oxford bike still around .
Hi there ,
I have one of the oxford fairings 888 corsas , bought from Devimead racing before they went down !
It was Trevor Nations oxford bike acording to them and the Devimead rider was ray Stringer -team mate to hislop for them .
My bike is the one MCN always used to show jumping the mountain at cadwell ! (stringer aboard) and funnilly enough i stood next to the mcn potographer and took a similar photo , not knowing i'd later buy the bike !
Also i took some pics at the bike show when oxford were selling them !
I have drag raced and club raced the bike extensivley and may restore her to Oxford colours at some time .
The Oxford rep asked me if she was for sale one day - No was the reply .
Cheers Steve .

I don't believe you 😁. Prove it 😁
can you share some pictures with us? 😉

Jonathan [JR60] asked me : " Why the interest about Oxford bike ?? "
When my interest for 851/888 bikes was growing up in the 90's, a colleague from UK (Surrey) had a large pic of that bike into one of his paper folders.
Despite many sollicitations, he always refused to give it to me !!!
He said that bike was his favorite and knew it very well. ???
... Reason why I wanted to collect infos and pics of the bike !!!
I realize now how it's difficult to find unknown pics of these bikes, especially of this period. Even if I daily scan the web, I'm a bit disappointed with my results.
So mates, if you've got pics hidden somewhere, even in the deepest cluster of your HDD, don't hesitate to offer them to the world via the site (Let's hope to get the support of our webmaster regarding the website capacity ...), I would be grateful !!!!!!!!!
