rick1127 ive a set of astralite wheels fitted to my 851 that im thinking of changing and fitting a standard set of 851 wheels. the question is are these rare are they desirable? any help would be great
rick1127 thanks for the quick reply the front is M1R fitment. i guess i will have to ask around to see what a sensible price is.
wgsvintage Google Astralite motorcycle wheels. They may not be to everyone's taste, but others of us think their cool factor is huge. Astralite's may be a little more Pantah era vintage than 851 era - possibly?? This link may help. Me, I'd keep them. http://www.classicbikersclub.com/news/astralite-wheels Another link - http://rennstar.com/index.html
rick1127 i dont think it will hurt to keep them il just have to look into possibly getting the colour changed to black and keet the silver rivets on show.
wgsvintage I don't remember ever seeing a set on an 851, do you have a picture of yours? What are the sizes?
Mr.R When the 888 was the weapon of choice for the privateer in the UK Championship, there were a few teams running Astralight's. In fact back in the day they were the wheel of choice in the UK in almost every class, from 125's to Superbikes. 😎 Another forum member had some for sale recently, I was interested but he wanted to sell the discs and tyres with them, which made them too expensive for me and I don't need tyres and discs. Oddly though I've just found myself contacting BST in S/Africa, re: a new set of Carbon 5 spokes. ££££'s... TBH I'd rather have a set of good period Astralight's though. p.s. Rick, I've a few sets of OEM 3 spoke 851 wheels here, I might be tempted to offer a pair in PX, if your asking price for the Astralight's isn't too high? ...ans as Bill's asked what sizes are your wheels? Steve R
wgsvintage Ah yes, they do look good! Love those things. I might be a little partial to the gold ones though.
dudlington Something like this ? Rear seat unit replaced with correct one as we speak............996cc tuned engine. Here is Mark Forsyth,s bike today (Henk posted the original photos back in the day previously) with 3 spoke Magnesium Marvics (Apparently according to Mark Forsyth the front wheel was borrowed by Foggy in the day as they lived close to each other and has won a WSBK race........nice story).
rick1127 sorry for a late reply its got at a guess 3.5x17 (120\70)front and 5.5x17(180\55) rear but im going to my workshop tomorrow so il check
