Remove decomposed material and any river tails. Mesh around baffle tube may need replacing. If not damaged leave it in place. Packing material is available, do a search here. If not go to a place that makes flame cupboards/cabinets and buy a meter or so. Use respirator and gloves (fibreglass), cut to width and wrap tightly. Use masking tape to keep tight. Refit outer tube making sure holes line up, refit end cap. Fit bands in place and fit all rivets before pulling them up. Job done.
The more packing material you can get in the smoother the exh note. Less material will have a harsher exh note.
Thanks for the replies. Got the new packing mats on the way and used a scope to explore the interior mesh, and all seems good with no significant holes I can see, but will confirm once I get the cans apart.
Anyone have a source for the blind rivets as they seem to be significantly larger than ones I can buy easily?
