ducati dad wroteRummaging in the garage and came across a pair of low level silencers off my '89 851 [zdm a04/b04] and was wondering if the end baffles came out. I can't see any tack welds holding them in but they are in tightly. On the outer pipe there is a small hole as if there should be a grub screw but not in the baffle. 😳
Not sure if this is any help to you but I have an 851 SP3 which has the original silencers fitted. They are marked ZDM A08/B08. I got a couple of bits in a box with the bike which I think are baffles/dB killers. They look as if they were (designed to be) tack-welded in, but I just had a good look inside the silencers on the bike and there is no sign of them ever having been fitted. There are no holes on the end pipe where a grub screw or similar might have been fitted, and nothing on the baffles to indicate that this is how they were to be fixed. I wondered if they just come with the bike from the factory for the owner to fit if they want? Needless to say, they're staying in the box of bits in the attic!
