Foggy 93 Moto cinelli Bike

At the weekend (at the first meeting if the N. Ireland DOC) met a guy who seemed to think that Foggarty's '93 Moto Cinelli bike was in the hands of a local collector over here in N.Ireland. This is the bike he raced at the NW 200 and BSB races in that year.

He had taken a photo at a local bike show last year (see below with the same bike at the '93 NW200 pits). Will see if I can find out more about this bike.

Have found out a bit more about this bike from the Bonhams site:

"The ex-Carl Fogarty, Michael Rutter, Moto Cinelli 1993 Ducati 888 Corsa racing motorcycle, used by the former to win the 1993 Northwest 200 and by the latter throughout the British Superbike Championship in 1994, sold to an Irish private collector for £23,000."

The sale was in April 2005.

I have heard that the owner is a brother of an ex racer over here, James Courtney. Will try and contact the owner to have a look at the bike!

Phil - is the painting your own? I think that it is of the 1993 NW200 where Fogarty won and Robert Dunlop (Joey's brother) finished second on another 888 (Oxford Products bike - I think that bike is now owned by Steve from Motorapido (Ducati dealership in England) who I bought my 851 from!). I was at that race - must see if I have the video. Fogarty also set the lap record - 122.49 mph not bad on public roads!

851corsa wroteHi, I remember that auction, I had been told by John Hackett, who was commissioned to restore the bike, that both the engine and frame where completely replaced during its rebuild. I suppose thats preferable if the owner actually wants to use the bike.

The Bike 'was' owned by a collector in N Ireland and has appeared Bonhams Auction twice before. The bike sold in 2011 for £23K inc premium (estimate £26-£30k) Not sure what happened to it since.

John Hackett recommissioned the bike in 1998 but the frame was swapped out at the tail end of 1993 by Motocinelli following a Phil Borley crash at Cadwell Park (filling in for Foggy whilst in WSB). I have the story of the season somewhere but don't recall Foggy riding the bike after that.

As for the engine parts, in my experience its hopeless trying to establish provenance as everything other than the frame gets swapped out with the oil change. I believe JH changed the cases / pistons etc as part of the rebuild.

Hoss Elm was kind enough to fill in most of the gaps and verify the 93 season for me some years ago and I have not found anything to counter what I have found on the subject which is ...Foggy never rode this bike in anger.

Personally, I think it would have more value as Michael Rutter's 1994 / 95 'McCulloch 955' - unique in every way and holds a soft spot in the 888 family tree for most of us, being one of the last to be raced in top competition (I have a crashed set of 60mm spagg pipes from this bike which are currently home to a local badger set - they are huge!) - I can't begin to image what they sounded like!!

Moto cinelli Bike #4 - Racing Seat ?

A piece of history or a piece or art?

Either way I have kept this seat with moto cinelli very nicely and professionally laquered on the seat with number 4 untouched in my collection of things.

The modified cutouts for rearsets are very high, either for high rearsets on early frame or as the seat was used on a later 888 frame.

I have seen another Foggy bike beloging to a forum member and that one was the later frame with earlier carbon tank, subframe (modified tank mounting) and the earlier seat with high cutouts.

Who can say
