roen is this a 'r' crankshaft? im building me a trackbike, so might be interested in it. second, does this fit in a st4s engine? (flywheel etc.?)
marvin Don't know if that's a R or not but be aware that if it is the stroke may be different than the ST4S engine. Which means that it won't fit without other R parts like pistons, etc.. I'm just guessing here so do your research.
ducati dad Have a read through here.. I'm sure nine16 used a 996rs crank... http://www.ducati851and888.com/showthread.php?8140-851-888-racebike-basketcase
roen yes did used one. but, had a chat with biggelaar ducati today. he told me that there are 2 types 996rs crankshafts. the one from the picture is the wrong one. doesn't work with the flywheel etc.... it's going to be a pain in the ass to get it to work in the st4s engine. jeroen.
nine16 I don't know about the year variations, but I used a 996RS crank (Ben Fox prepared) in my ST4S cases. Stroke is the same and had no issue with it. The only real benefit over a lightened/balanced Strada crank is that is splined, so it will handle more power.
roen so that's the difference between the two types. yours is splined. see picture here (scroll down) http://www.ducati851and888.com/showt...sketcase/page9 the one i'm offered is not splined but conical. and the waterpump side of the shaft is also different.
brad black at a guess i would say a single phase alt one is tapered, a 3 phase alt one splined. all st4/4s are 3 phase.
Mr.R That looks just like a 916SP crank. I have a knife edged, polished and balanced one for my 955cc motor. I thought the 996RS cranks had cheese triangle shaped bob weights on them, just like the 916/996SPS's. Steve R
