guy851 wroteCall me heavy handed if you like, I buzzed a 916 to the max and more and then went backwards and bestwards into my tricolore Kit. Sure power was there below 10K but the limiter was up... well it was disabled so I have no idea. Rushing about on the 888 SP 0/3 is a gem but when i have my head down its a bore to be reminded of a gear change when it hits the stops at 10K (SP4 epom fitted) I am going to map my chip on the corse Rep at just over 11K so I can keep on the power without looking or thinking just that little bit more if I want to
What do you boyz think?
Guy...
You're a heavy handed chap!
The 1st 916 Strada's were redlined at 10,000 and the later Bip's where redlined at 9,000 rpm...
To rev them harder was just being cruel, (Lacking in mechanical sympathy) they weren't making anymore power being over reved!
All you were actually doing was shagging the motor faster.
You'd have made better/faster progress shorter shifting and keeping the motor in the real power band.
It's great fun screaming a motor, but in reality you're not using the motor to it's max performance.
The 851/888 SP's do make their Max power at well over 10,000 rpm, (with the costs/wear that those revs incur) But it's very easy to get similar power without using those revs and keep the motor a lot less stressed.
My 851/916 mildly tuned special produces similar power to a 888 SP4.
But it makes it's Max power between 9,500-9,800 rpm a good 2,000 rpm under the peak revs of the SP4...
Which motor do you think will stay together longer?
I've covered over 30,000 miles on my own 851/888 machines and rebuilt a few for other enthusiasts, in the early days I reved them well past 10,000 rpm, but over the years I've learnt a little bit about these bikes/motors and now keep the revs down.
If money was no object I'd fit 431/G cams and happily rev the motor to 12,500, but until the long awaited Loto win comes in I'll treat the Desmoquatro motor with respect, making a mental note to myself not to buy one that you've owned before!
