A05 / B05 ... Whats the (hi)story here ?

Found a NOS set of A05/B05, they are 50 mm all the way and high up... (ALU SLEEVED)
They seem just like the A08/B08 but aprox 75mm (3 ") shorter.. (the 100mm sleeve starts/ends earlier... (fix point same as the 'A/B08 version..

Question : What are they from / originally fitted to ?

Update ; Stamps says 57410381A and 57310381A... few google hits says SP5... (which came w Carbon versions, hence not correct)

Could be standard pipes that were cut and flared to convert to 50mm? I did this to a pair of Ferracci cans and 3" is about how much I had to cut off to remove the reduction to 40mm. Any muffler shop can flare the end since it needs to be
50mm ID.

No sign of modifications etc.. all mint and virgin... What was the A05/B05 used for ??
(900 series used A04/B05 as far as i know, high & low versions)

Mine are for sure high up and 50mm from Ducati.. see pictures ..

Top one A08/B08... Reference check.
Middle ones A05/B05 ... same length from pipe start to fix point as the A08/B08 .. i now see that its more 50mm / 2" difference shorter... vs the A08/B08..
The lower carbon version (for reference) is a low hanger Termig. w 50mm connections ...
(For a SP4/SP5 w Strada frame/passenger hangers)

Now : What the heck are those A05/B05 from, Prototypes ? (They have the removable blockage/silencer inserts in the outlet's...)

Stig I think the best thing for you to do is to let me have them indefinitely so I can test them on my new project. I will of course then give you my opinion (At some time).

Maybe I have solved the mystery of the A05/B05 Silencers.

I came across some Italian paperwork I have for 2 - 888 SP3,s and there in the specifications were the mention of the A05/BO5 silencers. Probably it was a set of Silencers for the Italian market (Emmisions or noise regulations ????).

According to that pic, goggle translates the mufflers to tyre size. How that works l have no idea. Interesting but.

It is just the way the Italians did their paperwork. I copied more of the document above and it mentions the silencers. What the wierd tyre sizes are doing under the A05 BO5 is a mystery. Maybe one of our Italian friends can help ?. It does actually mention the correct tyre sizes for the SP3 above . Decibels 104 Db...........good old Italians.

Don't know if this helps but I have an SP3. The silencers are labelled DUCATI (Cagiva Elephant logo) ZDM A08 (right side) and ZDM B08 (left side). As far as I can see there are no other markings. The pipe entering the silencers are 54mm OD, and the sleeved part of the silencer is about 410mm.

I have a question - you say the silencers are fitted with "removable blockage/silencer inserts in the outlet's". Any chance you could post a picture or two showing these? I ask because when I bought mySP3 many years ago, it came with a box of spares, including what I took to be dB-killers. However, it's not at all obvious (to me!) how there were fitted. It's not with a bolt like in a modern Termi, looks like it might have been tack-welded or something. Although there's no indication in the outlet pipe of any welds. Bit of a mystery.

DB killers - spot weld

DB killer inserts are spot welded on the A/B 05 and 08. If Taken out carefully , you will not see welds inside pipe ends. Will post when back in the sheed .

All the SP2's ,3's and 4's came originally with DB killers in the silencers...like has been said ,they were all tack welded into the ends of the pipes.It was quite an easy job to remove them (back in the day......about 25 years ago )..I did the very job on my SP2 ... The SP3's and SP4's had the high level alloy silencers originally. The SP5 came originally with carbon silencers.

Thanks for that. So it woudn't be that easy to put the dB killers back - pity. Not! Sounds fine the way it is and my local MoT tester is selectively deaf!
