This might not be what you consider as help, but here goes. The bike I truly enjoyed riding the most over my last 58 or so years of riding was my lightly modified 1980 bevel ss. Those old bevel engines AND chassis make for a ride pretty much like nothing else. About all I did to mine was set the forks up properly with gold valves, put on good shocks, put on good brakes and a set of very light Marvic 18" three spoke magnesium wheels in 2 1/2" and 3 1/2" widths with decent tires to suit. I left the engine stock. The only bike I've owned that came close to being that great a ride was my 748/853. If I was doing those old forks now I would probably upgrade them with cartridges. So what I'm saying is, if you take away that bevel chassis, I don't think you'd have even half a bevel. That magic happens when they are working together, and you'll know when you get it right.
