Sprag woes

Sprag's crappin' out on me 🙁 Not asking for advice, just venting! 😉
Good side is. I bump started it and the forks I just overhauled with seals and Silcolene feel way better! I had to dial down compression and damping as I was apparently compensating for a lack of fork oil.

Sprag doesn't seem too difficult to do. I'm planning the tools I have to fabricate for the job. Hopefully the gear isn't all buggered.

So I got it all apart and thankfully the parts weren't all galled up so I decided to go with the cheap fix. I replaced the spring on the sprag with a spring from an SKF CR19778 oil seal. It tightened up the tension on the sprag's cams nicely and it functions perfectly now. We'll see how long it lasts. I couldn't see replacing the entire sprag as the spring was obviously stretched out. I mean, wouldn't the spring on the new sprag stretch out eventually as well? $8 part, $300 labor! That's if I paid myself! 😉

Starts right up now, no more clunk-clunk! 😄 I love those cheap fixes!

well done on the cheap fix, mine was completely shot. I was told that running a really good battery makes the spragg gear last a lot longer. I run a Shorai now starts first spin now.
Used all Ducati parts though I'm chicken.

+1 on the Shorai batteries, so light and they hold their charge practically forever! I won't use any other battery.

The KTM part is the way to go as Stig mentioned. Your good to go for the next few thousand start ups. The spring thing can work and then OOOPPPSSS just when you need it the horrible noise comes and you need to ask someone to help you bump your prized Ducati. If you own one of these bikes 70 quid is not a lot of money and it is easily done by the average mechanic.

Oh, I doubt that very much Brad! We shall see how long it lasts? I only rode her twice since the repair.

The spring dodge sounds good to me as I like cheap solutions, but as others have posted whilst you're in there for around £45 for the KTM part it's a no brainer for me.
It's worth the extra cash to know that I won't have to dive inside the motor for quite a while.
